dilemma, calc 3 or microbio?

I find myself in a dilemma here...not sure what to do...besides the fact that I may switch my entire major to something completely different (chemical engineering to linguistics (it really interests me!)). Can somebody tell me if microbiology takes (in terms of a SDN source of motivation) alot of work? I've always been good at biology, but have disliked it, and I'm opting to take calc 3 off my spring schedule and get on with microbiology...as it is reccomended for the dental schools I want to apply to. I've been told calc 3 is easy, and I like calculus (weird huh?)...it would be an easy class for me but I don't want to take something I don't need because I'll be switching my major soon. Also, has anyone else switched their major so late in the game? I'm a junior right now, well technically a senior with 94 credits, but I just don't want to do chem engineering. Thanks!

Regarding ease of microbio: It completely depends on your school, and your professor. At my undergrad, the class was much easier in the fall than spring. Ask around your campus to get the opinions of your school's micro class.

Regarding micro or calc3: If you want to prepare for d-school, micro will probably be a good choice.

Micro at my dental school was EXTREMELY tough. Oh, how I wish I had taken that class in undergrad 🙁

i hear microbio is the one to take, math just sucks..yuck! and I totally understand with teh linguistics--awesome, you will love it!

yeah, micro is the way to go. i had a really good prof, so perhaps i'm biased, but we learned all kinds of really important info.

I agree with the people above it does depend heavily on which professor is teaching the course. I would personally take microbio just because you will be faced with the material again in d-school, and it is suggested for admissions. Microbio was one of my favorite classes. I didn't find it too challenging, but then again I like Biology so reading the book wasn't a problem. At my school, you have to take the lab with the class. I usually can't wait to get out of the labs, but microbio was fun because you could figure out which kind of bacteria you have by using different selective plates. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it too.

I would take micro since you will have to take it again during d-school and you will have some advantage by having it taken in the past. I just finished taking it and I hope it will help a little.

I would agree with everyone, take micro. Even though calculus is fun (i think) chances are you're probably going to take micro in dental school anyway. You might as well have a head start!! Good Luck!
