Hi
I am an IMG and graduated in the June 2009 but my medical diploma will be released only in November 2010🙁 !!! I took my Step 1 exam few days back and did well ,now i am wondering if not having my diploma by earlier will be serious handicap. Can i apply to programs ,will they be interested in interviewing someone who doesn`t have a diploma ? I don`t know what kind of mess i am in .If any of you have any idea about the potential hurdles, could you please share it with me.
Thank you in advance.

To get your ECFMG *certificate* you must have passed Steps 1 and 2 CS/CK. However, to *apply* for residency, in general, you don't need the certificate. Bear in mind that some programs may require the certificate or Step 2 but this is variable

So if someone passes Step 1,ck,cs, they can apply for residency without waiting for the ECFMG certificate to come in the mail?

Is that what you were trying to say?

Thanks.

Yes. There is no requirement by the NRMP that you have your ECFMG certificate to apply for residencies or the match. Individual programs may require it but that is a separate issue. The NRMP only requires that you have completed everything for the certificate except the final medical diploma by the date of the Rank Order List deadline.

^^ Thank you so much for the info.

Thanks a lot mate,is a relief, the diploma issue has been giving me nightmares.

Not to be overly critical....but how you know you did well on Step-1?...is it just you're "gut feeling" from taking it a few days back?
