Does anyone know of companies that provide disability insurance for first year medical students? Most of the companies I have reached out to do not offer policies until 3rd/4th year. I have contacted my school's financial aid office and am waiting to hear back.

Thanks!

Why would you get disability insurance if you don't earn an income?

Because I have hundreds of thousands of dollars in outstanding loans which will not be forgiven in the event I become disabled.

When accepting the loans, there is a "Rights of the borrower" section that goes over this. If you are disabled you call your loan officer and it is one of, if not the only, times when they will halt interest accruing on your loans (might be different for private loans). If you are permanently disabled then the debt is wiped out entirely. A word of caution though it has to be a super bad disability like quadriplegia
