Hello all!
I was dismissed and is looking for any advice moving forward. I was dismissed at the end of 3rd year due to failure to pass COMLEX. (Unable to retake due to time limit of program - I took an extended LOA due to medical reason and therefore I didn't have much time left to finish the program before failing the COMLEX). After the dismissal, I took some time to get myself together and is now looking for advices on what to do next. I am still interested in working in the health field or move onto computer science. So far, CAA is what interested me the most as I had an interest in anesthesiology while in school. Would programs like CAA/RN/PA auto-deny me due to my med school dismissal? If anyone know of someone who was able to get back into the health field after med school dismissal, please let me know! Thanks

Hard to say what any specific program would do. I will say that I know of at least one student who was able to go on to be a PA after being dismissed from med school for failing step 1.

As with any professional school application, your first step is likely shadowing someone in the field to: 1) make sure you know what you're getting yourself into, and 2) show genuine interest. I'm sure your prior clinical experience will count for something, but they're going to want you to prove you actually want to be a CAA/RN/PA rather than you just "settling" for it.

1 year RN program then NP.

You can become a doctor-like in 3 years still.

At least that is what I would do.

CRNA. They get paid more than internists and pediatricians at the hospital I rotate at. Probably more than most nonoperative soecialties to be honest

But it will take time.

He will need to work in ICU for at least a few years (2/3), so it will take OP 6+ years before becoming CRNA

I wonder how much CRNA make at your hospital. I know they make ~250k/yr, which is certainly more than peds, but more than internist. How much internist get paid at your place?

They all get tons of overtime.

I think the community hospitalists usually make around 250 but the academic definitely make less than that. Granted, patient census for academic is usually like 8 lol

Your easiest path would be RN to CRNA. Obviously it's not the same as being a doctor, but it's a way to still be in anesthesiology if that's what you like
