Some diversity essays can be up to 500 words. Nothing wrong with doing both if you think they are both relevant. Maybe after writing them you will see which one is best.

I like the military one better.

First post but I am a longtime lurker. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am trying to decide between two “diversity” essays. I have two already written but one seems to be more of a what have you overcome and I don’t know if that is more important for diversity when a school only asks what makes you unique. The two options are

1. I’m in the military (at a military academy) which means that I have gone through basic training etc. and when I graduate medical school I will be a military doctor.

2. I grew up relative poor. I was on social security and Medicare for a while, helped my parents where I could etc. (I didn’t claim adverse status on primary)

What would y’all suggest I write about when the school asks me what I bring?
