Just got the "Certified Applicant Match Week Schedule" email from the NRMP. What bad timing!

Yay! I got the first page!

Oh god please let me have passed my regression midterm.

I'm sure you did, dear. And if you didn't, we'll do drinks after my exams. Well, even if you DID we'll do drinks after my exams!

...yeah, wasn't going to have beer tonight, but maybe I will now...wasn't really feeling serious machitis yet, but I think it is right around the corner now

I know this was discussed before, but I can't remember the answer and don't really know how to search for it:

Why does the NRMP not release the unfilled programs to "fully matched" applicants?

They say to "promote ethical behavoir"! Doesn't it do the opposite? That is, doesn't it just beg someone to find out the list and post it on SDN?

And what unethical behavoirs might someone try if they knew the list and were fully matched?
ncc

Not all independent candidates register for the NRMP match...so there has been incidents in the past where people have handed over the unfilled programs list to these people, making what is already a competitive environment with NRMP registered candidates even more competitive.

I can remember last year when non NRMP registered candidates where trying to get peeps on SDN to post it so they could have a crack at scrambling. It makes sense to me...we all paid to register...it wouldn't be fair to those outside the match to try to get spots as some of these places.

Sounds like a plan! I get spring break! a small consolation after having been crushed by my midterms!

A drink would be great.

When is your break? And are you around Fri afternoon/evening?

You're crazy. Then again, all I'm doing this week is sitting around in a stupid Transition to Residency class. It makes me want to chew glass.

But YAY!!!! Stitch is back!!!!

You think 2 weeks is bad, we have a solid month of it. And 75% attendance required.

Man I love Borat...."Very nice!"

....so technically, you have 3 weeks of it😛
Something like that.
However, they make some absolutely mandatory, and they have those all during 4 weeks, so no week long vacations during the whole deal.

I'd be pretty intimidated with Tony Soprano as a father.

They probably have to ya? How many people would show up if they weren't mandatory?

Well, we would show up to the 75% we have to go. But they force us to go to at least 1-2 hours per week, that count as part of our 75%. But often, the school feels that these particular topics are worth it to the whole class.

Transition to residency class? WTF? I had no such thing!

And yes, I walked 10 miles, uphill through the snow every day to get to med school.

Seriously, what are they trying to teach you? How to answer the 3am page? How to get along with that seriously demented respiratory tech (Hi, DKM!)? How to write Tylenol prn pain/fever on every patient?

Whatever they're teaching you, it prolly won't help.

Yeah. And most of it specifically won't apply to EM. There are countless talks on business skills, and overhead, and how to buy office supplies, etc.

I remember at the beginning of med school when they were telling us how to get the best deal on long distance and I raised my hand and asked "Have none of you heard of a cell phone?"

Why the heck talk to anyone about bidness skills before internship? None of you will care and none of you will remember. It's like the billing/coding lecture I got as an intern during orientation - I remember that it happened and I remember nothing else.

Now that I'm an attending, I do care... and I do remember what was covered in the billing/coding lecture I went to recently. But if I was still a resident? Pbbt!

Am I really that seriously demented?

Nah. We're got a couple here who work the night shift who are WAY worse.

T-minus 3 minutes to the beginning of my shift. Who wants to bet I see more GASTRO tonight? 'Cause the po challenge goes so well at 3am with a 13 month old...

Ohh! I've finally broken 300. Go me!

Yeah, they normally put the least social and most misanthropic amongst us on night shift.....that's why I prefer nights. Comic relief..... :meanie:

 Maybe you'll find another case for that article :meanie: Good luck!

Yeah, well, try fighting that battle. I figure I will just go to school, take my hits, and move on. It will all work out in the end.

Plus, most of what they tell us now will be significantly changed by the time any of us finish residency.

Oh, so did I mention the funniest thing that happened during the interview trail?

At one school, they had us sit in a waiting room for our interviews. This waiting room also happens to be where the medical students wander in and out of. So, 8 people, in suits, with name badges, sitting in there, when a group of M1s comes in. First thing they ask is "So, what can we tell you about medical school at XXXXX?"
We held composure the first time, but after the fifth or sixth time, we couldn't stand it anymore, and started laughing at the person when they did it.

   I think I would have started laughing at the first one.

Yeah, but everyone has to be on their best behavior, etc, etc.

I did refrain from saying something like, "seriously, just shut the **** up." But I was tempted.

DKM.. did i ever piss off the DOs.. i just wanted to see what happened. One post by me and the whole thing melted down. they shut down that thread.

You should check out the thread about the "Hero MD......I mean Hero DO" who was on The Daily Show tonight. All the DOs and would be DOs are "let down" by the fact that he didn't mention he was actually a DO. It's been fun messing with them, but I swear if they were any more insecure, I'd have to question whether they were vertebrates....

I don't know what is worse.....the preallo kids who have supreme confidence.....or the preosteo kids who try to act confident, but usually come across like high schoolers worried they aren't going to be accepted by the "cool kids"

That or the White Coat Mafia......a bunch of misfits who basically like to act tough and bash the more traditional cliques.

pre-meds are insecure know it all twerps. I had a little of this as well but the arrogance of going to school x with a 3.7 and 35 on the MCAT is annoying.

You know what it reminds me of DKM? Your fun with Genetics that's what it reminds me of. They are all so quick to justify their choice. Similar parallels to the mac users that crewdude hates so much.

Thanks EF..... *brushes salt off of wounds*

Nah. your not so bad in my eyes.. I think there is something wrong about a 21 yr old who never worked a job in his life thinking he knows how to cure the worlds ills.

Speaking of Mac users.....what happened to SouthernDoc? I haven't seen him around in forever.

Genetics was a premed washout who would post REALLY long posts about how great being a genetic counselor was going to be. I called him on his bull**** and he finally melted down and was banned. He has come back several times with new identities though (as recently as yesterday).

I think i remember a few posts by "genetics"... turderiffic

busy day in peds. One more shift then to the VA for medicine! Ouch!

Some "kid" came close to a broken nose.. He basically threatened to punch me. He was 16 on drugs etc. I warned him nicely. He decided vs punching me. It would have been a bad scene on his part!

Im not even a violent guy but dont threaten me.... 😀

Have fun....I loved working with veterans actually. I used to sit and talk to a patient who was a medic on Omaha Beach on D-Day.
