dmd/PhD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Even with research, I'm really concerned about the nature of funding mechanisms. I always hear about NIH and budget cuts and the lack of money. It's hard to fund a lab nowadays. I don't think that will get any better. Something else to think about for those trying to get into dds/phd.

thats the great thing about having that clinical degree..if you really cant get funded there's many options.

plus nih funding is cyclical, or at least it has been in the past. lets hope this is just a low point (after all it's likely 4+ yrs until you apply for an F grant and 7+ until you apply for a K or R grant)

This is very true. During my first two years, I'll be a part of the PhD program. Then I start dschool after that and join the class two years from now. When it comes the time to cross that bridge, I hope things get better.

Thanks for your post. I'll definitely look into some of the MD/PhD posts to get some more input!
