DMU Class of 2006

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi All,

I have been accepted into DMU for the fall as well. After interviewing there, it immediately became my #1 choice, even ahead of all allopathic schools I interviewed at. I am excited to meet all of you this fall. Questions:
Where is a good place/cheap place, to live, and does anyone need a roomate?

Good luck to all of you, and again, I am excited to start my journey this fall with all of you.

DMU should send you a list of places that you may contact.... I live in Windsor Terrace which is right across the street.... 3333 Grand Ave.

If you want luxury.... try 3000 Grand 🙂

You can wait for the list or start shoppin' for places....

Congratulations,
😎

Hey Popoy--I sent a you a PM.

Okie dokie 🙂 .... I'm checkin'....

I replied back....

One more thing.... 🙂

Imperial has thermostats and wall units for ac.... Just ask someone in the computer labs about Imperial and he thinks is a good place to live in and hasn't had any problems yet....

Hey, thanks Popoy. Here's another question. Does DMU's alumni still provide a sphygmo cuff as a gift to MSI's? I knew someone who graduated a year ago who received one when he entered DMU. Just thought I would ask.

We didn't get those free this year.... the alums substituted that with our FREE white coats with the DMU logo on it 🙂 I believe that will again occur next year....

Don't worry about med equipment until you get here.... You can buy a ton of stuff with the deal at the bookstore or with SOMA.... besides there are certain things you will need for Physical Diagnosis.... Us will-be-second years will help you first years this coming year.... 🙂 Keep the questions coming and I'll keep responding through this thread....

😎

Motogirl- I sent you a message. I think i remember you from our interview day too.

C'mon fellow DMUers post up!!!

BUmPitumP!!!

Physio exam this Thursday.... about 5 weeeeeekkkssss lefffftttt!!!

Bumpin' it up....

So, Class of 2005, what are your plans for the summer?

Hello everyone, I thought I would take over for Popoy and do some bumping up here, plus this is a good excuse to take a break from studying physiology. (Bleh!) The class of 2006 is really coming along from what I hear in admissions. Everyone is excited for you guys to join the ranks b/c then we won't be the first years anymore! As for my summer, Sunnyone, I have only got this one left so I'm going to work during the day at a children's camp, relax and go out at night, and spend quality time with the pool at my apartment complex during the weekends 😎 Gotta enjoy free time when it comes my way. Hope you guys are enjoying what is left of your free time  Take care!

Hi, Everyone:
I am a DMUer to be and had few questions to ask. Is it possible to have a weekend off and go home once in a month? Where can I find the residency match list for DMU class 2002? Is it hard to find a place to stay few days before the orientation? Thanks in advance.

AYLC - During my first two years at DMU, I left town virtually every weekend unless we had a test the following Monday. Just take some notes with you to brush over on the weekend for a 1-2 hours and you'll be fine. As far as a residency match list, I don't think that DMU has one posted. All of my friends matched into programs that they are happy with if that tells you anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Clinical Affairs and/or the Library has a list of the residency match list for DMU students....

As to whether or not it's hard to find a place to stay a few days before orientation, depends on what type of a place you're lookin' for.... it a hotel, I'm sure you won't have any problems....

I remember last year how some of my colleagues were still lookin' for an apartment.... it's not uncommon to not have an apartment when you come here for your orientation....

DMU will also be sending you guys information regarding apartments so sit tight if you'd like.... they're asking current students regarding their views on certain apartment complex now to gather info for Class of 2006....

Later peeps, 😎

question, can you guys tell me how long one has to turn in the deposit, ($2000, is it?) for DMU?

thanks 🙂

I think the deadline for turn in the final deposit is 5/1 and the total amount is 1000 not 2000.

Let's not forget that the $1000 will be added to your tuition if once you've finalize that decision

Goodnight y'all 😎

hi everybody,
just found out yesterday that i have been accepted to DMU. i am pretty excited! 🙂 i have been waitlisted at one other school and if i dont hear back from soon...DMU it is!! 🙂
(yup, i found out that its $1000...on the AACOM website it is listed as $2000)

thanks guys!

congrats on getting into DMU. Hopefully I will be seeing you there in the fall. What do you do now? Who are you waiting on?

HEADS UP CLASS OF 2006!!!

If you're around IA this weekend.... the DRAKE RELAYS are this weekend.... DMU students are treating the athletes.... I highly suggest you come by and introduce yourselves.... if you find me, I'll even teach you some OMM if you'd like.... Hope to see some of you there 🙂

Congrats to future_DO, I will see you around in fall. By the way, is there a special reason why MSI should not have a car in DMU? I read it from the school info that they do not recommend MSI to have a car and carpool instead. ???????

You see, in Des Moines there are very few paved roads and most people still use horse and buggy for travel. Frankly, the cars scare the horses and this upsets the locals.

I just sent in my final deposit and this is my 100th post... 😀 life is good.

I'll let you know by tomorrow....

congrats 3mc1dj, hopefully everything worked out for the best with you and your wife

Hello everybody!!!!
I had my interview at DMU recently and I want to find out how soon they sent the acceptance letter after your interview.

Thanks.

Zoloft, they sent them out at the end of each month earlier in the cycle. I am not sure if this is how they do it toward the end...You can call and ask if you want, they will let you know if you were accepted.

Thanks 3mc1dj for you reply. I did what you told me, called them up and found out that I've been accepted.
Live is good!!!!!!!!

Congrats see you in the fall!

Drake Relay.... We'll be outside the stadium so come by and say HI!!!

7:30am and on....

😎

Wet and most definitely COLD!!! during the Drake Relays....

Sorry we weren't able to see any of you there.... I know some of you attempted. I don't blame you.... weather-wise, it wasn't wise to be out running about

later.... bumpin'it'up... 😎

If some of you are looking for a place to live here in Des Moines I would like to suggest Sun Prairie apartments. They have hundreds of units that are reduced rent for income-qualifying individuals and they are NICE!!! They are in West Des Moines so it takes about 10 minutes to drive to school; maybe 20 in rush hour traffic. I would highly recommend these apartments for families. They have beautiful playgrounds and pools and lots of little kids; pretty decent tenants too; many DMU families there. I think rent for a 3BR, 2 bath, 1,000 sq. feet apartment is about $650 but don't quote me.

Hey everyone. For those of you looking for housing, i noticed today that there are several complexes in the DMU area that are advertising current vacancies. And i'm bumping our thread. Is anyone from the class of 2006 moving here early in the summer? -LR

hey sunnyone,

i'm thinking about moving out there sometime in may or early june. i've looked for apartments, but i don't know how close they are in relation to the school, so i don't want to do anything without checking things out first.

i would love to live across the street in windsor terrace, but i can't seem to find a listing on those apartments.

well, hope to see everyone in august!

kimberlee 🙂

Do you guys know if we have to have computers for the first year? I know that some medical schools make them part of their curriculum.

Does anyone know where and what time the Research Open House is tomorrow?

Just want to get some info from current DMU students as to where do you live right now and which apartment(s) will you recommend to new comers?

migraneboy, one (or two) last private message(s) for you, thanks

Just secured my apt at Windsor Terrace for the fall. Cant move in until Aug 2nd though! Any other first years going to be staying there?

CUBuffsgrad98--I, too, will be calling Windsor Terrace mi casa for the next two years. I will be moving in come the end of May. I love the nostalgic 1940's style it has. I looked at a couple other places, but this was definitely the place for me.

motogirl.....I did not have a chance to look at them, just did it over the phone since I am so far away. Are you already in the des moines area, or are you moving from somewhere else?

I just wanted to have my new beer drinking Avatar on this post!

PainMan- is that avatar of yours a squashed Jimmy Kimmel? 🙂
I'll be apartment hunting this weekend in Des Moines, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to find something good. It looks like everyone else has fared pretty well in the housing process so far 🙂
