Argh. I got a call from DMU yesterday, saying my records are missing 4 units of G-chem. I already explained that to them, and had Berkeley send them a letter about the chem sequence that bio majors take there. 🙄 So I emailed them a copy of the letter, twice by accident. I hope this fixes the "problem". Otherwise, no Jane at DMU!!

That sucks....but I'm sure everything will turn out alright. Got the first part of my TB done today, go to get it read on Monday. Hopefully, my records get here quickly, b/c I don't want to shell out all sorts of money to get needless immunizations. Do you know how much this physical is going to cost, with all the labwork and everything...I'm guessing like 150-200 bucks!!!!

I wondering if they'll accept Teagan as payment....🙄

Why is it that expensive? How much does your insurance cover? I paid a total of $5.
 
I DON'T HAVE INSURANCE...AAAAHHH!!

Haven't had insurance since I've gotten married, too expensive

What do you think of the insurance that we'll be getting at DMU? Is it a good deal?
 
Yeah, it's pretty good. When Kelly and I were planning on having a baby, her insurance was 210 a month! Talk about an arm and a leg!
 
Anyone know where can find a list of match results for DMU?

What kind of auto insurance do you have?
 
God I have no idea---this has all been such a last moment thing! I just got the acceptance from DMU on Wed. Then yesterday from VCOM! Now I have to make a call. One is far away from home---the other very close. The two schools are so polar to each other it is hard to evaluate. Pluse MUSC is telling me to reapply here, but they can't make any promisses!

AHHHHHHHHHHH!

So, I need to work one more month, take three weeks "VaKay" in July, find a place to live, someone to sublet here in charleston, get my financies in order, pack, and move by August!

Just needed to get that out to some one who can understand this all! the family doesn't. They want me to go to VCOM because of them but there is no track record with the school---even if I do love it there. Any advice guys?
 
🙁 Everytime I give advice to somebody who is trying to decide whether to come to DMU, they always choose the other place. So I'll just say this: Do you really want to wait another year, with no guarantee that MUSC is going to accept you?

I'll risk one more statement: Even though VCOM sounds good, I would be more comfortable if they were more established. I mean, people still hesitate to go to TUCOM because of its short history.

What specialties are you considering?
 
I can definitely relate to the family issue...my parents are pissed that I'm moving even further away from them now. They also don't realize the "magnitude" of medical school. They are always asking me why I don't pick up a job while in med school. I try to explain to them that school IS my job.

But, I thought DMU was the best choice for me, as well as my family...from the atmosphere of the city, to the schedule of the schooling. Plus, you get to have Jane and Prad as classmates and friends...you really can't get any better than that!

We have Allstate...right now, in MO, we pay $130/mo. In Orlando, we paid $165...the agent told me the farther north, the lower the premiums (hope that's true). And that's for two cars by the way!

What insurance do you (or will you) have?
 
Yeah, med school is more than a full-time job! My parents were a little disappointed that I have to move out of the state (they kept bugging me about finishing my app to TUCOM), but they are completely supportive now, especially since most of my friends who got accepted are heading to the east coast.

And don't forget about Rick! You can steal his rap CDs...(hey I liked the Eminem quote better!)

I'll get Geico, most likely. Gotta love the gecko! I'm getting a discount from them, so it will be ~$900 more or less per year, if I get a Camry.

You're getting a sweet deal for 2 cars!

it helps to be married...we are now considered responsible adults...boy do we have them fooled
 
When all is said and done, I know DMU is the better idea. i want to do Ortho. and I doubt that any residency director is going to risk a resident from a school with no history behind them. And NO! I can't see me waiting one more year on MUSC with no assurance of a chair. I have already given notice here at work. This next week will be pure hell trying to make-up my mind that my mind is made-up!

I don't envy you...when I first applied to med schools this year, UHS in kansas City was my top choice....DMU was the last (well, close to Pikeville)

I got accepted to UHS and DMU.....imagine that! After my interview at DMU (which was the first interview), I was hooked. The next day I interviewed at UHS and was not impressed. I just liked the curriculum and overall atmosphere better at DMU
 
To tell you the truth, I wsn't even going to apply to DMU, but Kelly insisted, saying "what would it hurt"

Valmont,

I liked DMU so much that I made up my mind to go there without even seeing the campus. Then, after I went last week to get the apartment, I couldn't be more happy with my decision. My friends seriously do not believe that I'll be happy in Iowa, but they haven't been there! What you just said is all very logical, and I do hope you'll be sending your deposit to DMU 🙂

Did you hear that he's writing a song that mocks the mesages that Mariah Carey left him? Because he said in Rolling Stone that she's just hype, and not all that. She then inferred in her "Clown" song that they never even touched each other, and now he's making a song about that. Celebrities these days...🙄

I'm glad to see that everyone is going through the same thing as me... I've been at the doc's office getting my shots, my TB test and my physical!!! not to mention that i've been trying to get my fin. aid stuff in !! too many things to do...
i'm getting very excited about starting though.. it's becoming more real by the second!!

Hey Lina,

Yeah, things are starting to get hectic for everyone. I'll be moving to Des Moines probably on July 7 or 8. But I leave for St. Augustine on July 18 thru Aug 3. So, I've only got like 10 or 11 days to party it up in DSM before orientation!
 
Hey, guys I'm busy packing. This whole packing thing is for the birds. It sucks.

I'm gonging to make one thing clear, no matter how much ETOH you get into me it's not going to make me sing any better. Your talking to the guy who's choir teacher said "Pradeesh, you might want to develop your other tallents in leu of singing". But I dance very well though when I'm drunk.
