1) Shttthttle is "SHoT aT THe TiTLE" with all the vowels and except the last e taken off...it goes way back to when I kissed a girl in college and I didn't like the first kiss so I told I wanted one more shot at the title. Then she taught me how to play Euchre online, and that was my user name for yahoo euchre

2) Does anyone know of adult soccer leagues or or anyone that wakeboards in Des Moines...those are two big stress relievers for me.

Thanks!

Anyone know where the good ice hockey leagues are? I know there are at least 2 rinks around town?

Does the school have a soccer club?

Pod students suck, unless of course they can bring some other hot Pod students (only girls, sorry, Steve) back to apt. 210.

Hot POD students!! They can give good foot massages...wait, is that a good thing?

Even if they don't no big deal. We could try to piece a team together for an adult league. Or at the very least, find a field and scrimmage each other.

haha...how funny..u're in san diego too??? as far as a place, check out this website www.venturellc.com, their closest units are Imperial and Grand Prix. These guys are really good people to deal with...especially Lisa.... she might be able to do some magic. There are alot of soon to be third years in both of these units that have not given their check out notices yet....meaning that a whole bunch of units could become available as early as July.

As far as me, I will have a 1bdrm at Imperial for $580. oh...i see u're a myspacer too...i'll add ya on buddy!

~Moe

Moe: Do you like the Imperial? I am going to be in a 2 BR there with a girl from my undergraduate program... Is it really loud, what have you?? Thanks

Are there really a bunch of you sharing a place at 3000 Grand?? How much was the 3 BR???

I would play soccer with you all if I wasn't such a dork at sports. I got in this major accident in 2004 (didn't involve sports in any way) but now I am scared of any game that would involve a ball flying towards me in any way, shape or form. I'll stick to running, the bike, etc.

Where is SDN located, because according to my watch..the post I made 1 minute ago was at 1:55 and not 10:55. Hmmm....

Old Mil, thanks for the reassurance!

Unc, I can't tell if you are laying down the sarcasm or not. But if you and runner are serious I'm open to considering it. There's always the living room or doubling up in the master with twin/long beds. We could even do rotations of getting the living room... Anyways you know how to reach me if serious.

I was being sarcastic. The storage space is outside and has no lights or electricity.

Probably a good idea. When I play soccer, I play for blood. 🙂

That's the trouble with the internet. You can't pick up on the subtle cues to let you know when people are sarcastic. 😡 😳

Are there any biking/hiking trails in Des Moines? It's really flat there so I'm really not seeing a big level of difficulty

IS IT AUGUST YET!?

😎

Official countdown to Orientation: 66 days-

I can't wait to meet everyone! Did anyone send in health forms, etc. to Jessica yet? Man that was a pain...

LuvGrand, there is a pretty long bike trail right next to my apartment for next year. I think it's 20+ miles long if I'm not mistaken. I'm living at Park Avenue Apartments, 4400 Park Ave. Maybe you could mapquest it? I'll be doing some serious biking while the weather is still nice... we'll have to ride sometime.

I just bought a bike! I am so excited to start riding again! LuvGrand if you ever want to bike with someone let me know. Did you end up in Grand Colony?

and I am totally down for the soccer stuff--there are a ton of fields in the area around the school.

A whois on the server says calli.

There is a trail around sailorsville lake. My wife and went to check it out after my KCOM interview. The lake seemed great. I'm sure the trail will be cool. No mountains to climb though.

I ride a ton and I certainly plan on keeping it up as much as possible and I'd love to get some group rides going. I even bought a mountain bike recently and would like to get into that a bit.

Do I hear a possible DMU Mt. Biking Club in the mix. Count me in. I can always use a few more scars.

Wow, I am up early on a Saturday...that means one thing....Waffles!!!

mmmm waffles.

Y'all are crazy...seriously though, I love biking...when I was a kid my parents used to drag me on 60 mile rides and I hated them for it....now I wish I would have begged them to go on more.

Are any of you runners?

You ARE up early!!! 5:22 on a SATURDAY.....you better have some waffles...make some for me while you are at it!

well I guess I'll just stay right in with the DO class for now haha

So I happen to run a little bit....right now only getting in like 100 mile weeks though, not sure what to do now that undergrad is done. I'd also be down for some cycling considering my bike pretty much collects dust right now with all the running, and the seatpost is cracked so I need to send it back to the company to get a replacement

You crazy fool (my way of saying wow). I bet if you do a squat, your whole body just pops and creaks and whistles doesn't it?

Sounds like we have a good group! I'm really excited. SA doesn't really have any good bike trails so my bf and I haven't been in a long time. It's starting to get too hot right now to go.
I just want to make it clear that I'm not really good at mountain biking. I'm one of those people that pulls over to let the real fast guys bike pass me. It's all fun though!

Oh yeah...my bf wants to know if anyones plays basketball?

So we are heading to Des Moines tomorrow. Will be there until Wed. Other than looking for apts., what else can we do? Good restaurants we can eat at? Please chime in.

Yeah I put in my application and deposit. They just cashed it this past week SO I hope that means I have a place there. I'm moving my stuff into storage the first week of July so I'm going to go by and look at the apartment. I hope I like it. It's scary getting an apartment without ever seeing it. Oh well! I'm sure it'll be great!

My place last year was at Grand Prix...which is an ok building. Imperial has alot more students living there and you get a better access to the wireless network. This year would be my first year living there...but i haven't heard any complaints from other students living there either. I was a 09er...but had to take a leave due to a family emergency...so i'll join ya'all as a 10er...i'll be at 207 starting july 28th....we should all meet up before stuff get too serious 😉

Does anybody know anything about the Weston Park Apartments??? (On Park Ave) Please let me know. Thanks.

I had an appointment to check them out, but I cancelled it after arriving there. Maybe I'm picky/anal/whatever, but when I got there, the pool was completely uncovered and had been essentially destroyed over the course of the winter and Fall as a result. Something as simple as ensuring you have a pool cover during the off-season raises huge flags for me in regards to the management. If they can't even take care of that, then I highly doubt they'd be able to meet my individual needs.

I know that's not a lot of help, since I never even saw the apartment, but take it for what it's worth. I ended up signing with Park Avenue (right next to Weston Park), and I think I'll be a ton happier there.

A friend of mine came across this link . If you fill out the personal information (name, address, etc.), scroll down to the category general, and then check the the box next to Biochemical Pathways Wall Chart, they will send you a Huge poster with literally every known biochemical pathway for free . The thing is sooo huge, they even include an index so that you can locate everything on the chart.

To be honest, you may never use it, but then again, it could really come in handy. The whole thing is only slightly unethical. They typically send it to (I presume) professors and various other people associated with universities/companies, but there's nothing on there about individuals being unable to receive it for private use.

Anyways, I thought it was pretty sweet and wanted to at least pass the information along to my fellow classmates.

I checked them out about 2 weeks ago. They're only ok. It's about 10-12 minutes from school and they're doing a lot of renovations on the place. It seemed to be in a decent area and was reasonably priced. We looked at 3000 Grand (which we ended up picking) but also looked at Timberland Pointe (6-8 minutes from school) among a couple others which sucked. Timberland Pointe was really good and reasonably priced, Weston Park was our third choice.

If you are talking mtn biking trails in SA check out OP Schnabel or McCallister park. Government canyon is also pretty good. If you are talking road then you can find some nice long rides just outside in the hill country.

Yea, we looked at the 3000 grand but they were expensive (3 bedroom for about 1100.00 😱 ) I took them off of the list after I chatted with the financial aid lady who scared the hell out of me. Does anybody know how we are going to do this???????????????????????????? After tuition/books are paid for, we have only aprox. 18,000 dollars to live on the rest of the year? How is this possible??? This is below poverty level. Aprox 1,500 dollars a month?? How do you survive with a wife and 2 kids? IS THERE ANY ADDITIONAL FUNDS WE CAN SECURE TO LIVE ON??????? Freakin out here. Just got back from Des Moines 20 min. ago. Majorly discouraged about the financial situation. 🙁 🙁

I honestly don't know your entire situation, so my advice may be useless, so please take it with a grain of salt. I do know that you can get additional money for childcare. Thus, might it be possible for your wife to work a little part-time and help bring a few extra bucks a month? It'll be hard enough for my fiance and I to do this, I can't imagine having 2 kids as well! 🙁 So possibly look into that?

I don't know a lot in regards to this, but I do know for a fact that it has been done before, so there are people out there (who have gone through it) that can better help you or at least inspire you.

It is tight, my wife is looking to do some daycare part time to help things out. Med school loans are only 'suppose' to cover your expenses, not you and your wife and kids unfortunately. Keep your chin up, you can do it, it's not forever.

Yeah, the lady in 3000 grand was a total jerk to me when I went there.

no doubt. When were you there? I went there 2 days ago (6/5) and saw a couple of students there.

It must have been the lady I talked to on the phone. When we were there the lady was great. (I think she was a sub) We called back and a different lady was nasty. Right then I decided that it wasn't worth the huge price to deal with that crap. The apartments were pretty fancy though.

So bone...

How was Des Moines this time around? Like you recalled? Did you find a nice dining spot?

Hi everyone
I am looking for a female roommate to share a 2-bedroom apt at Timberland pointe (6-8mins) from school. pls contact me at [email protected] if you are interested.

I have to give a pat on the back to misparas. When it comes to SDN cruising and looking at the official class lists the use of ## for this thread's title is really easy to spot. Good thinking guy.

mismd,
I don't remember seeing you post here, so just in case, welcome to the class!

Hello Everyone,

My name is FlexxAll, I am a habitual SDN user, and this is my first official post.

I've been using the site for almost two years now without having contributed one bit. But, those days are over, I've taken the plunge and can walk with my head high from now on.

I mainly used the site to prepare for interviews and learn more about the current students perspectives of their school of choice.

I interviewed and was accepted in October, and my wife and 2 week old daughter are moving to West Des Moines in mid-July.

I'm anxious to get going and look forward to meeting all of you.

Flexx

2.4 miles from campus. I'm stoked I'll be able to ride my bike to school most of the year.

Flexx - Where you from?

I just checked out the portal and our 2010 "strip" scheduals are in!

I had no idea that there would be any stripping!

Anyone else excited for the World Cup. My team plays tommorow against England on ABC!

Oh yea. It was even sweeter this time around. The school looks freakin amazing. My wife and I did a little tour and it was all good. Housing was ok. We looked at about 12 apts. complexes and narrowed it down to 2 places. We finally decided on the Maple Grove Villas. Except you have to pay for your own water. pretty lame. Food? We ate in the old downtown district at a brewery (can't remember the name) but it was across the street from the spaghetti place. Had some EXCELLENT BBQ at a place on Cottage and 25th (can't remember the name either...sorry I just woke up). And we met up with shminger and his wife and had a great dinner at the Drake Diner. The food was great, the school is great and I'm going to be too broke to partake of these divine eats again. 🙁 Good times. 👍

BTW, welcome FLEX. 😀

Wow...so the strip looked pretty fun. I am so excited that my undies are all in a bunch.

I was totally not worried about $$ b/c I am not married, no kids, living with a roomie...etc, but this last weekend, the $$ thing struck. My bf of 3.5 years proposed to me (on 6-6-06...is that weird to anyone else) and now we are going to have to try to figure out how to pay for a wedding (and he is going to be an MSI @ UND) and we are totally broke. Yay for that...lets hope my parents start feeling really generous, or I will have to dig in garbages just to find food (want to join me anyone....kidding, kidding....)
