Here is a quick question:
What percentage of applicants that complete the secondary applications are invited for interview?
And out of that percentage of applicants that interview how many get accepted ?
For example when I asked a LECOM AdCom was told that they had roughly 1500 applicants, and 450 interviews for 80 students in the incoming class

A little dated but: In 2003 they offered 541 acceptances, 617 interviews and 201 were enrolled (88% acceptance rate after the interview). Most of these came from out-of-state (551 interviewed and 487 accepted, 161 enrolled).

well, no interview for me yet... just an acknowledgement of file complete...

Eh, I didnt start interviewing until freaking November, you are way ahead of me.

Last year (I can't give exact numbers) DMU had more applications than ever before, interviewed fewer candidates than before, & accepted fewer (fewer per interviewed) & still managed to get all acceptances out earlier than interviewing closed. Word is that they plan on continuing this trend as the applicants are becoming more & more competitive.

does anyone know if the DMU secondary is automatic or if they screen applicants before sending one out?

I don't think any school uses an automatic secondary system anymore ( I could be wrong) but I do know of people who never recieved secondaries. That being said, they may only check for specific things (such as the min. 3.0 science GPA for DMU...ect.)

They send it to everyone w/a minimum GPA of whatever their cutoff is.

Congrats Scootdoc!! 🙂

I received an e-mail today too--I'll be interviewing on Friday the 29th as well!!

Congrats!

I will interview on sept 28th

Congrats to everyone, you have gotten past one of the most difficult steps of this adventure. Now, all you need to do is sell yourself and you are home free. Either way, DMU is an amazing school and I am sure it will quickly jump to the top of the list of schools you wish to attend. Have fun at interview day, make fun of Dr. Muller and his laugh (you will see) and be sure to listen hard to Harvey (pretty sure I spelled that wrong). And, If I see any of you, I will be sure to bust your balls and make you even more nervous... :meanie:

Congrats to all of you. Feel free to ask me any questions about the school or interiew if you have any, I'm a first year @ DMU. I'm actually sitting in Behavorial Medicine right now. See you all soon and good luck.

From the DMU Class of 2010 Thread, I can see that the Behavioral Medicine class is not a popular one.

Do they offer an interview after they recieve secondary and before letter of recs or after?

hey trabada,

i'll be there on the 28th with you...but i was wondering...did you get any information from them yet? anything besides what is listed on their site? i just got that email and i want to book my flight asap.

Don't let that steer you away from the school though. It has been a pretty boring class... but all schools have those.

Des Moines is awesome! DMU is incredible and I feel dang lucky to be here. The atmosphere is great! I wouldn't go to any other med school. DO or MD.

Of course, misparas. I say that 'tongue-in-cheek'. DMU is HIGH on my list precisely because I have heard so many great things about it.

Every class is not well liked, who wants to force new information into their brain when their favorite TV show is on?? Don't go by what we complain about, if we didn't like it, we wouldn't be here. The first week was rough and we were just letting off some steam. It is a great school with great faculty (very supportive). In the end, if I can speak for us all, we are happy to be here and finally going through with one of our greatest dreams. Have fun at the interview, it is the best way to keep your memory in their minds. Feel free to message any of us, we all have varied stories about why we picked the school and how the interviews went. Take a tour at the end of the interview (most important) and ask as many questions as you can; esp if Jbone is your tour guide. For those of you who are nervous, don't be, the interview is very relaxed. If this is your first interview: remember to relax, write down five or six things that you want to get out in the interview and focus the questions asked back to them.

Anyone know who is giving the tours on Friday 9/29? What will the weather be like? Should I go for a pants suit or a skirt suit?

Me three. I look like an old woman.

I am not old, I am thirty seven.
You can't expect to yield supreme medical student power just because a some watery tart threw a sthetoscope at you!

I mean, if I went 'round saying I was an doctor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a lab coat at me, they'd put me away!

I didn't put anything in the comments. Was that bad? Oh well. I already have an interview.

Could someone please clarify for me what exactly this additional comments section is on the DMU application? Are they really expecting us to talk about
1) why DMU? why osteopathy? why Des Moines? how we exemplify leadership etc. etc.
OR
2) explain felonies, MCAT/GPA discrepancies, things like that?
I'm really confused.

First off just relax. The additional comment section many people are talking about is just a section at the end of the very short DMU secondary. All it is for is to explain anything that may be irregular in your secondary answers. I don't even think they give you much space to write much. It's definitely not there so you can sell yourself some more. They will use your AACOMAS PS as their reference. So don't worry yourself so much guys. Good luck everyone.

I might be, it really depends on who signs up, but we get free lunch. Weather will probably be comfortable, maybe mid 70's???? But what do I know, I've lived here for less than a month.

Who's doing tours on Friday 9/22? Anyone else going to be there from SDN? I've never been to Iowa before. I hope it's cool that time of the month. Interviewing in 100+ degrees with a suit on here in TX is a pain. Any suggestions where to hang my hat / chow down appreciated!

What did you/are you going to put in the DMU Comments/additional information section?
I was thinking i would comment on how it was my number 1 choice, facilities and other reasons why it was my # 1 choice.

Also, is anyone else worried about being convicted on a misdeamor many years ago having a negative effect on your chances?

Thanks.

i put nothing. i have a misdemeanor in the form of reckless driving by speeding and i'm not sure if that will have any effect on my application consideration by the AdComm. (i hope to God it doesn't 😱 )

whats your misdemeanor all about, if you don't mind my asking?

MODS - can we consolidate the DMU interview threads into one?

I might also be doing tours that day. FS and I will be easy to spot. FS is the massive muscle mass walking around with a woman on each arm and I'll be the tall blonde freak that's walking funny (First Biochem test was a beauty 😱 ). I look forward to meeting you all and showing you the best school in the US...IMHO. Why? Because FS is a student here. 😉

Okay, can't wait! haha

From reading the feedback, I can tell they do panel interviews. But does anyone know more about who does them?

Edit: Damn you internet with your vast wealth of knowledge...

Each candidate will meet individually with an interview team for approximately 30 minutes. The team normally consists of a DMU basic science faculty member, a clinician, and a current COM student. Occasionally, a fourth interviewer might sit in on the interview to observe as part of their training. The interviewers will ask questions about your academic strengths, interests, and your motivation towards a career in osteopathic medicine.

I also got an interview on sept. 28th

For all of youguys interviewing good luck. I did want to know though, when did you guys send in the secondary and after how long after did you get an interview invite? Secondly, anyone an august MCATer who has got an interview based on aprils scores?

Good Luck again everyone.

I'll be interviewing at DMU on Thursday, 10/5. Anyone else going to be there that day?

What time are ya'all booking your flight back? Do you think we can make a 5:00pm flight or is that too early?

I think that is my day, too. Pretty cool!

Hopefully I can give ya'll a tour of the place when you get here. FS and I just finishede our "tour gide" training today. Get excited, this school is SWEET!
Ok, back to biochem I go. Go luck to everyone. 👍
