What is this Glanton Scholarship? I wish more people would hurry up and choose DMU so I'm not so lonely in the official thread. 🙁 Good luck on your rotation match....I don't know if you need luck, but here's some for you. :luck:

Glanton Scholarship is a minority scholarship started in memory of Judge Luther Glanton by his wife Willie. They were very influential in Des Moines, and did much charitable work...also civil rights.

If you're that lonely, you can stay over by Cremaster's house. He's a lonley guy, too.

Don't worry, one of the coolest things about DMU is that the campus is all connected by wireless internet. Those lazy SOB DMU students do nothing but sit around in class all day writing posts on SDN (just look at this thread for proof). Soon you will be joined by countless other lazy members of the class of 2009 :laugh: jk
I think its awesome how DMUers manage to find time to have an cyber DMU family here on SDN, and I really like the way the campus is connected. Plus I loved the gym and the new building and everyone was just 'so nice' there!!!

I had to leave right after my interview to catch my flight back to Houston so I didn't get to tour the campus, except when we walked over to meet the Dean. I wish I could've stayed, or at least see pictures of it, but there aren't any on the website.


What fast food chains are there? I ate at Applebee's at the hotel when I was there, drove through downtown, and went to Walgreen's. I should come up there sometime soon and tour the town.

It'll free me up to sit through a 5 hour Environmental Health class and listen to student presentations on such topics as: Organic food, herbal supplements, global warming, Hormones in food supply....

My kind of drink. There are a LOT of great eateries and deli type places in Des Moines. I'm actually working on putting together a list of places most students haven't heard of for the next student paper. There's a really great place right by school called Enzo's Deli. Awesome grub as Portier would call it. And when all else fails, find the person in your class that can cook and make friends. Portier's great at the culinary arts. I'm partial to my own cooking but Lucky makes the best desserts......if you know what I mean. If you don't.....she makes good bread pudding and pies......mmmmmm pie.

Only good place that I found for sushi--Taki's Japanese steak house. Seafood, supposedly, Splash in downtown (they even advertise it in chicago but I haven't been there because it is too expensive). Indian food--India Star in Beaverdale. Mexican food--El Monterrey in Clive (although I'm told it's not THE best...). Mongolian BBQ--HuHut in Clive. Some of my class mates have been to a good vietnamese restaurant downtown, but I haven't been there yet.
 
Of course there is Cheesecake factory, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Cheddar's, etc. in West Des Moines.

WHAT????!!!!........please don't tell me you haven't been to Waterfront. Best seafood and sushi in one place. Trust me.....I eat a lot. And there's a great new Vietnamese place out in Waukee called Mimosa.

I'm having some great sushi for lunch. We've found a place in KC that has the knockout sushi. I should know good sushi, I'm from cali. DSM sushi is so so. I'm not a big fan of Taki and I havent tried waterfront.

Portier - i have some major issues to discuss with you.

1. There is no "e" at the end of Burchett. i know that you want me to be french with you, but the truth is that i am German. furthermore, i am not a fan of the french, even though i like you for some odd reason. my dad drives around town with a Anti-france sticker. so learn to spell my name before i beat you like the drunken sailor you are.

2. conversations with me are usually one-sided b/c people find what i have to say interesting. ask Tanner in our class about that who was shocked when he heard me speak my mind, after 8 beers on friday night.

3. happy thanksgiving you dirty french *****. i wish you the best and good luck 'stuffing the turkey" if you know what i mean.
 
Oh and just wondering, do any of you know what DMU's turn around time is for an acceptance after an interview Dec 16-17th? (Since Christmas is the following week). 😀
 
A guys computer breaks down and he gets a spare that sucks so he isn't signed on very much and he misses a lot. To answer all your questions personally I am 5'11, brown eyes, brown hair, just turned 23 so I can finally take aspirin, I play ps2 because it "improves hand-eye coordination", and portier is not my pimp, he just can't handle me anymore so he is trying to pawn me off. Munchkin the fact that you have bootylicious written under your name means I like you........I gave the lexi a tune up dmak so we don't have to play mechanic when you get back like we thought......I'm glad you also got another ps2 controller because I couldn't aim and I thought I was going to have to go ape **** on your bread pudding........if you know what I mean. This has been the best week in the history of iowa sports............football team big ten champs, ferentz resigned through 2012, the bball team beat #11 louisville, and #13 texas, there's only one place to go from here.....................down (which can be fun taking in a certain context)..............I appreciate everyone on here who is trying to find me internet love its so nice to see all the great things people have to say about me when I haven't been on in awhile.......Portier by the way my conversations are one-sided for the same reason astro's are...........I like to hear the sound of my own voice.........especially when I'm not saying anything worthwhile. I'm pretty sure I know you were talking about too, so I doubt I wanted to hear her opinion much anyways.. 🙄 Portier that smiley was for you, guys night out next wednesday after heme if I can afford it. It's odd not having to feel like you need to go to class (since most of us don't go anymore).......it makes me feel like I am going to have to go get drunk with my 3rd year dental student friend from iowa and randomly quiz each other board questions at the bar because we are total losers. Anyways this post should make up for my absence, be prepared to read my article for the next installment of the innominate it should be highly entertaining :laugh: In closing I do love all of you dearly, some in a more "special' way than others so have safe, happy, and food induced coma Thanksgiving, and when you get back to town let me know cause you can only drink so many nights alone before someone starts calling you names like "lush" or "alcoholic".......bas*ards. 😀

I am a guy....for the most part. Lucky likes to do role reversal sometimes but I always come out on the losing end of that battle...... 😳

If you haven't noticed by now....we're all pretty open here. I hate Ray, Ray hates Cliff, Cliff and I are lovers....I mean friends.......yeah.

what it comes down to is dmak and ray were lovers until they realized they were both too hairy (and male) to conceive children, then dmak used his wampa paw's to knock me out one day and carry me back to his ice cave where he hung me upside down from the ceiling, luckily for my lucky showed up with cow leg and fried snickers on a stick or I may have been dmak's lunch..............and portier no matter how old you are you will always be just old enough to be my dad in my mind.

I think what's really bothering you is how your moms disapear to my apartment for a few hours at a time when they come to visit.

Don't despair, I'm just teaching them how to integrate differential equations while they're here.

So what winter sports are there in DM? And is there more of a social life in the hip West DM area or closer to school/downtown? And who do you guys get internet access from? I have lots of questions 😛

I have madden so it may work out afterall!!!!

You can always go sledding, ice skating, snow boarding, etc, but its much more fun to road trip it north to minnesota to do most of that. I don't really do too much "outside" in the winter, I'm much like a bear I store up my fat then lay on my couch and watch tv and let it waste away😉 There is social life anywhere you looking for it.....west des moines has all the "newer" bars you would consider hip/classy I guess, downtown has the 18 and over every gets drunk/laid bars. I can give more specifics if you like on names and whatnot. I get internet from my apartment building with my cable for $20 a month, but most peole use media com and add the wireless hub so they can use it "anywhere" (dmak). Anymore let me know



Don't feel bad my sister is 24 going on 25 and dating the same guy for 3 years and they aren't engaged yet😉 Not that she is very happy about it....most of my friends have kids and aren't married.........I have neither as of right now and am surviving perfectly fine😉

Cable and internet for $20/mo?! That's hella cheap! What about health insurance? I read that I will need it, so is there a group plan through DMU? Sorry for all the questions.

On another note: I'm not concerned about being a single spinster at the wonderful age of 25. hahahahaha :laugh: I'm just mad at him calling me old!!! He's a booger anyways.
