I don't think I can blame a guy for the ramen noodles. I am pretty sure that I have walked out of the supermarket with a couple cases of the imitation food. First couple years of undergrad, it was breakfast, lunch, and supper....can't beat a 10 cent meal

I guess you had to be there. He was still in his manic state and quite exasperated with himself because he doesn't even like ramen 🙄

Wooooooooooo. Congrats to all for finishing the first month of rotations! 👍 Had a pretty cush month...probably can't say the same for next month though 😉

That's great news that we don't have an OB/Gyn posttest! I believe the FP test is after the core clinic rotation.

Ace-- can you put those psych hints on this thread? I have that next month in Bettendorf. THanks!

If I get any peds info I'll post it but if all I have to do is 5 more CLIPP cases then I'm not even going to study for it.

Those of you out there that purchased UpToDate...did you put it on your palm and laptop? I don't have enough room on my palm and I'm having issues installing it on my laptop. I've been using the online version, which I think is great!
You have to buy a 1GB card (SD or CF) and put UptoDate on that, then stick it in the pda. That way, you take up no space on the pda itself.

So, Portier, can you let us guess who that student was?

how long are you in bettendorf for? i go there march for 6 months (hospital and fp clinic...)

👍 HI! I am on psych right now and I have my post rotation exam this friday October 7 (I'm in the Ohio Core and we started a week late) Do you think I could get the question hints???

(this is steph wilson)

Thanks a ton!!!! 🙂 By the way...I HATE psych....so boring. I am in a psych clinic and its pretty worthless. Luckly I start my Geriatrics Rotation in a week! YEAH GERIROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am alive and in detroit living with a few fellow dmuer's. I think it will be pretty fun but I am staying away from 8 mile for sure. Time to start psych. If anyone has advice on not falling alseep on a rotation let me know!

I love mysteria lane and desparate housewives.

I know you do, but answer your phone when I call you............faaaaaaaaaaaag

a DO-06er....

She made an announcement in our class once that was so annoying my ears bled and my brain climbed out of my ear to run and hide under the MEC state.

Then I got a thrombosed hemorrhoid. :meanie:

I finally got into the hospital scutwork today, so I feel pretty cool. Besides the lack of hospital work, my FP rotation is going pretty well. I don't know how these FPs remember all of this stuff becuase it seems like they have to be an expert in everything.

Did she exercise often?

Not that I am aware of...but I didn't exercise that much in school....

As oposed to now...I can run qod...qd if my joints hold up.

And Cliff gets both a boquet and a brickbat:

1) Boquet: Good job on losing a ton of weight, skinny.

2) Brickbat: Peds sucks ass. You're dumb to want to go into it. Unless you want to do neonatology on really sick kids. I mean how much croup can you really see before you're like...fcck it....

One cool thing I did see: A kid who showed his epiglottis when he went, "AHHHHHHH."

Yeah, so I was in the Crisis center in the afternoons this week and we had a lady that came in. She was fine at first and then she went completely wacko when she found out she couldn't see a psychiatrist that day and get drugs (antidepress and benzos). She went completely crazy! We had to call security and come to find out...gee...she had a gun in her purse...
I was in a small room with her and another woman therapist (a petite woman at that) for 1 hour and for about 15 mins of that she was freaking out. She invaded my personal space more that once. Yeah, I'm not crazy about psych (ohh, bad pun). I'm only a week into it and I WANT OUT!

Well, that's a good story, but my mom does that kind of **** everytime she doesn't get the attention she wants. 😛

I mean it's not as good a drinking a bottle of gin while listening to depressing music and driving off while I call 911 to find the body (psycho ex-room mate in Pensacola), but....

My psych rotation has been great, but its at a private psychiatric hospital associated with St. Joseph's in Michigan. I do ECT mond, wed, frid in the am, and in the rest of the time I was in the emergency psych area for people brought in in a psychiatric emergency. Bernard, I liked peds more on the hospital side of it, which I don't know you'll get if you are in a clinic. Week one in michigan surivived, 8 months and 3 weeks left. 👍

As always, I will disagree with frenchie.

Peds can be a great profession. I realize you see the same thing most days, but the hours are wonderful and the people are generally happy. parents come in and adore you b/c YOU are the one treating their kid and making them better. most of the time all they want to hear is reassurance that they are doing the right thing. I feel that i have become much better in dealing with babies and finding ways around their fear of needles (i.e. i just tell them to hate the nurse b/c she does the poking around here). I realize that line sets me up for some perverted CUM-back.

People don't hear me say i'm a med student when i walk in the door, and they call me doctor most times. it's fun to play the role finally. all you have to do is wear a kid-friendly tie and talk very quietly to kids, and MOST will cooperate. The double bonus comes with the good looking mothers.

So frenchie - Kiss my ars for saying Peds sucks. It's better than looking at jaundiced 60 year old alcoholics who smoke and seek drugs in the ICU. With this said, I don't think i want to do peds, but they do have a great hours. i go to work at 9am, have a 1.5 hour lunch break, and am always home at 5. sometimes we round at 7am and do circumcisions or newborn baby checks, but that happened only once last week.

How about PENN State. I'm happy for JO PA and the nittany lions are at least representing the Big Ten with some class and dignity. that stadium looking totally crazy with 108,000 people and loud music.

Yesterday was a good day to be a hawkeye as well.

It was a great day to be a hawkeye finally, and I am getting my ass kicked in fantasy football this week. On the other hand, I eat basically a 6 in sub a day and some bagels so I may end up skinny before graduation. Alright, back to laying in bed being worthless. I turn 24 in 7 days bitches................

So psych is a really interesting rotation, but man do I want to be on another rotation right now!!! It gets old seeing really crazy people all day, and feeling scared for you life most of the time. Anyways Surface is on, and I need to read some..........Astro let me know when you are moving up here for good, and if I go home for christmas, maybe we can meet up in chicago before we head to michigan or something, or if you come up here earlier maybe we can car poole part way, or make sweet gay loving............I love you.

You cheating female canine.

No more buttlove.

Cremaster - I move to detroit january 1st. i will probably be in harlan / chicago before that time, so we can figure something out when the time comes - which is a long ways away. and yes, i love you too.

Frenchie - i miss you like a cold sore, seriously. where are you when i need something to pick on?

Lastly, I have made $60 in the last two days by betting $10 on a few football games. last night the steelers won me $26 b/c they won and no more than 47 points were scored in the game. It has been a good week. now i cannot wait to lose it all after college football upsets take place.

I would take Effram the ******ed Frenchman's threat of no more buttlove seriously.

i mean he's the carlton fisk of catching....that's hall of fame caliber.

I love these 12 hour days in clinic.....HHAHAHAHHAA - I mean to say i love getting the afternoon off.

So my laptop crapped out on me, and I have to mail the hard drive into dmu. so last night, instead of saving loan money like I wanted to because I have extra right now I went and spent 1800 on a desktop iMac that's pretty freakin' sweet. Added bonus is I can sync our logs with it too, so if my crappy dmu laptop breaks again I may just throw it out of my car on 8mile. Ok time to go get ready for some food, it is my 24th on sunday, happy birthday me. go hawks tomorrow against michigan, I will be the only iowa fan in the bar, but I will be loud and obvious to spot. 👍

So, after three days of fighting I finally have UptoDate on my Pocket PC....damn if it didn't install kicking and screaming!

Now to find a dictionary and microbiology reference...

I was wondering if someone could resend me the psych info for the test, since my computer crashed adn I had to email my hard drive into des moines. I don't have it in my email anymore, I'd really appreciate it! 😀

crisis averted.........guess who got a happy birthday email from sdn today. You bet your sweet ass I did, but on the down side I am no longer a prime number🙁

So my sports betting account grew from $50 to $225 in one week. i doubled my money by monday night, and after my great picks yesterday in college football i became rich in the gambling field. the only problem was that i did 7 $5 high risk parlays today hoping to hit one of them (b/c they pay $200 each), but I have yet to see all the results since the monday night game has something to do with this.

I think the hawks are back on a roll bitches!

women just want one day to meet some dude with too much money that doesn't care he's marrying a chemical toliet (thank you Family Guy movie for best phrase ever to describe a vagina).

anyone fail the post rotation IM test yet?

Genetic Anomalies I've seen so far:

Mosaic Turner Syndrome
Down (common, I know) Syndrome
Melnick-Fraser syndrome (NOT Fraser syndrome....weird kids with no eyes)
Prader-Willi Syndrome

No inbred Louisiana jokes. I'm marrying Paul Lisi, so it won't affect me.

I saw CHARGE syndrome

but for psych
I've seen borderline, bipolar I, II, and a ton of people who are schizophrenic

ECT is pretty cool, hopefully you guys get to see it once, and follow some patients on it, because in about a week we had a guy who was trying to fight everyone and hearing voices go to be very pleasant and no longer hearing any.....

maybe you should email me your picks and I'll put money on them too....I could use a little extra cash.

I love you and mr awesome-O I have no idea, but I take the 100 question psych test from my site next tuesday and the 50 question one from our school, and i heard the only person ever to get an A on their test was a pharmacy student who came back and went to medical school  great

I have been following a child with CHARGE. he is mostly blind, deaf, and just looks a bit different. i hate to say it like that, but the definition of CHARGE will basically says "Hey, I look funny."

I've seen some undescended testis. AIDS. Hepatits C. Barret's esophagus. Crohn's. A HUGE colon cancer tumor. Ringed espophagus. Diaphragmatic hernias. Poor kids and gay IV drug users...always getting diagnosed with the bad stuff.

Psych makes me feel like I need some antipsychotics and benzos...ECT is cool, very cool and REALLY works...we had a patient with major depressive disorder and major feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness totally turn a 180 and his MDD went into remission.

Here, we get to spend some time in the Community Support Program, which is a place for those with major psych disorders that can barely function on their own to interact and learn how to re-enter society. From what I've seen and heard from Drs it's one of the best run programs in the midwest. Their program actually gets some money from the state...(it's in IL).

Hey, are any of you at St. Josephs in MI? If so what do you think. We put in for the lottery in 2 weeks.

I'm at St. Joes right now. Psych is a good rotation, it's just long. You spend a lot of time reading during the day the first week. But Dr. Rao is a great teacher and you get good at IV's and helping with ECT's. I have Ob/gyn next month, which my roommates tell me is ok, but as a male student you don't do as much as female students. They don't have any major complaints just that sometimes they feel like the female residents aren't too nice to them. I have IM after that and the people I've talked to really like it and think it is a good rotation. The housing is pretty nice here too, we have 4 people in a two bed-room 2-bathroom, but you all have such different hours its not too crowded. You get about $8 a day for meals at the hospital so you only have to have a few groceries and we just always get subway or something tha tyou can keep for a few days and eat over multiple meals. If you have any specific questions post them or email me at dmu.

Speaking of which, tell Althea's friend I said hello. 👍

And at least I was a Corpsman...we had females without beards in our rate.

Hey now that is low....they were perfectly good looking once they shaved.

I am no longer in her friends good graces.

Do you guys know who the heck is at St. Josephs, MI or am I going to have to get mideval on your buttocks?!

3 reasons to love a peds rotation:

1) taking call but NEVER getting called to do anything b/c your pts are healthy

2) getting wednesday afternoon off b/c you were "on call" the night before

3) a kid whose mom is salma hayek's twin....accent and all. what a babe!

runnerup reason = Iowa Hawks Rule!

I took the IM test this past Thursday and as of that time around 8 people had taken the exam and 2-3 people have failed. I have to say that it is a hard exam, the internal medicine compendium does not help you prepare for this exam. Hopefully they will revise the objectives soon. 🙁

i thought the michigan football team wasn't going to be any good this year, and I still don't think they are, but what does that say about IOWA?
