hey guys, you remember Dr. Wolfe? The guy that taught a bunch of the neurology lectures? Apparently his license is indeffinately suspended...do a name search on the Des Moines Register's website...
inappropriate sexual relations with 3 patients, billing for patients he didn't see, etc...

Is that a violation of the honor code?

we are totally covert.................they teach that as a class at dmu usually right after cranial OMM, just in case.

8 weeks of Family Medicine is really long...especially where I'm doing it. I'm so glad I have another 8 weeks to do in 4th year. I think I'm going tos spit.

I have another 14 working days on this hitch. Luckily I'll be reading on my non-work days so I'll just log reading...reading...reading....qbank...web search....pda search...reading....etc.

I did see a 50 year old vain trucker who wanted elbow skin surgery today...he probably has Ehler-Danlos Syndrome when I looked closer, and a REALLY wild looking batwing I theorize. If you don't know what a batwing is, watch that movie WAITING....

"It's so VEINY!"

I'm at Jordan Creek and just saw 3 of the biggest women I've ever seen outside of cremaster's bedroom walk by. I mean 300+. IN thongs. 😍

I found a misquote there:

it should read 4) Astro likes dudes with acute gastritis so he doesn't have to waste his astroglide on them

Bernard I was wondering myself why we have to spend 4 months on family practice but are only allowed to do 3 months total in one field.........kind of contradictory, but oh well at least my attending is very reasonable and fun to work with. 👍

I was wondering why OCA calls Pediatric Surgery a Pediatric Subspecialty.

As far as the research I've done goes, you have to finish a Gen Surg Residency then apply for the Pediatric Fellowship.

Using even tones and politically correct phraseology only got me, "We're going to call this a Pediatric Subspecialty."

So, for all you gonna' be, wanna' be cutters, you're stupid if you don't do Pediatrics before you apply for the Peds Surg fellowship....

However that's really just me b!tching because I'm tired of playing SPAL everyday with sore thoats, HTN, rashes, ED, arthritis, falls, and of course DM (none of which was on the IM exam...I'll let you know about the FP exam).

I can't wait until 06-11AUG06. I'm going to Cancer Camp in Maine...Camp Sunshine. I think they've appionted me "Photographer" or "Driver." FINALLY some work I can really sink my teeth into!

Frenchie you just went off on a tangent.

I hate being tired even though it's always my fault for not going to sleep early enough. DMU's graduation is pretty quick from what I'm told, and that it will only take about 2 hours for the ceremony itself. I can't wait <360 days until we go from being a ******ed student to an idiot intern. 👍

I don't know about you guys, but I'm pushing straight through....I'm done with rotations in 9 months....that leaves me with 3 months to go hike the Appalachian Trail.

Anyone want to come hike a leg with me?

Cremaster, we can cuddle and quote Brokeback Mountain if you want.... 😍

"I wish I could quit you!"

I know Ray, you watched that movie 14 times already.

So what did people think of the new X-men movie? Did you guys see it?

I am taking two weeks off for boards in Aug and then I'm pushing straight through too ray. I want to go somewhere warm like hawaii so we can tan your sexy body. I have yet to see X-Men 3 but I am going to go sometime soon. I'm not a huge fan of X-Men but I do enjoy action/non-thinking movies so hopefully this lives up to the hype. I also want to see Over the Hedge and Cars and I'm going to take astro with me so he can hit on his age range...........

I liked x3 a bunch a bunches....

Being a X-Men nerd from way back in 1982 (yes, I read comics when I was 7...grandma bought me Uncanny X-men #162 or something), it was great to see a holywood treatment that was as true to the spirit of the books as a cinematic production could be.

I loved seeing mutants I recognized, and watching the fights!

This was almost as good as seeing Cliff without his shirt on....but really what can be as good as that?

the only thing better is seeing you with your pants off ray

Does acting out the love scenes count? jk

Just the one time....with a girl...who I went home with that night...although I did keep thinking about Jake Gyllenhall. (NOT)

I have been waiting to find out if there is an fp spot for me back in des moines since 5/5/06..........how long do they officially have before we can just start trying to do it ourselves?

If I were you guys, I'd write a letter to Santa.

Or Satan....same letters in santa and satan, so....

yeah they are all saying full but one has yet to get back to me and its really starting to get me mad. I've been waiting like 1.5 months now. Anyways back to studying for boards 👎 :

Mike ditched me like a used beer can....He had other things to do, so it didn't work out.

What I do have is my FP Satori....
Sometime last week I figured out it that it's almost as important to "visit" as it is to diagnose and treat these folks.

I ended up asking about what one farmer sorta looking guy did and learned about horse breeding. I asked another guy with a New England accent about where he was from (Maine) and asked him additionally if he knew about Casco (he did). He said there's a ship ride you can take on a Tall Ship (like the old ones' with a bazillion sails) and pull rope like ship's company. That sounds like something I'd really like to do!

So in essence it's about knowing the people as much as it is about knowing what's wrong with them and how to treat it. Wild....

What I also have Zen about is applying for Pediatrics. Seeing kids (sick or otherwise) is really the best part of the day for me. I know I've yacked about a cancer fellowship, but even if that never came to fruition I think I could practice happily for many years as a General Pediatrician. (Patrician?)

I'm leaving Iowa for fourth year in 3 days. This will be the first time I'm outside the great state for more than a month in 3 years. I'm glad I came here to learn how to be a doctor. This is a very wholesome and beautiful state. If I wasn't committed somewhere else (Navy), I'd have a hard time leaving here in the summer.....You can, conversely, keep your f---ing winters.

One last thing: There's another blonde haired blue eyed medical assistant in Indianola named, "Jenna." There was one in Mason City for those of you who don't know... Is there some rule about having beautiful young ladies named Jenna around clinics?

Off to make more friends at the FP office!

The end is in sight! I feel like 3rd year is over this week. After that, it's 8 days on a California beach, and then starting the roadtrip across the lovely Midwest. And the best part is getting to do it all with my man! 😍 Enough of this long distance crap...

I finally registered for the COMLEX...in October! I can see myself getting kicked out of school now. Yikes!

That would be only if you did not sync your handheld in two weeks, then you would get kicked out.

Don't sweat it. I too was also scheduled to take boards in October and I got an e-mail from them saying it wasn't a problem. If you were more towards the bottom on the class - which I know you're not - then they might have a problem. You should be fine. 👍

Thanks? (Not sure who you are 😳 ) Did you plan on taking it in October, or were you kind of forced into it due to inavailability? In any case, good luck with it!

I haven't heard from the school yet. But I did take the FP test today. I hate how they make it so that you have to submit your answer right away and not be able to go back, like the peds test. Subject-wise, OB and peds were high yield.

So I'm dropping off yet another box of clothes to Goodwill today. It's clothes that made the cut twice before, but failed to pass the third time. I hope they'll be of good use to somebody...it was hard for me to say goodbye to some of them *sniff*

I also took the fp test and agree with lucky lots of ob/peds/womeh health crap. I'm just glad I am done with tests for our school for ever. I have mailed home two boxes big enough to put dmak in to lighten my load for moving around. I start my 3 straight months of neurosurgery monday, but i am sorta sad to leave FP. I've started to like the sweet hours, and the patients are getting to know me so not all of them say "where is my doctor, I dont' want to talk to a student". Anyways back to the grind...............saving lives one hypertensive patient at a time.

I'm a stalker :scared: No, just kidding. I hadn't planned on taking it in October, it's just what fit with what was left. Since then I've switched to August which wasn't an option for me before. I had planned on an international rotation in August and wouldn't have been able to take boards then, but that fell through.

I just thought I would reinterate how much I love neurosurgery. We had a brain tumor the size of a fist today that was booked for 20 hours.............I didn't get to scrub it but I snuck in to take a peak. It did, however, leave other cases open for me and the junior residents to do together. Even after the long hours nothing more I would like to do..................

I have to say that I'm glad to be back in the South. The melodic accents of these beautiful young women who work at this Hem/Onc clinic are so soothing.

Tonight we went to a drug dinner and I was seated next to the two mid-levels (a PA and an NP). I tell you, the first time I saw them I wondered if there was an evening wear portion of the hiring process or if they just skipped right to the swimsuit competition. Really....wow!

So after making polite conversation for a while, I asked about cornbread....and they talked about it for not less than ten minutes. Ten minutes dedicated to the nuances of cornbread.

I really like Athens. I really like cornbread. I really like being back in the South.

theres a country song about cornbread and chicken

My Family Practice rotation is turning into a trans-gender clinic. 2 years ago my doc gives in and offers some dude estrogen therapy along with spironolactone (and a few other COCK-tails), and now they are flocking to the clinic. Word travels fast.

So plastic sugery-urology people actually transform the penis into a pseudo-vagina via a rectal-perianal pouch. Disgusting stuff, but sort of interesting. I think cremaster can finally become the little woman he always dreamed of being.

Here is a good song for you all: Ben Folds Five - Annie Waits.

Did you actually get to scrub on a sex change operation?

On the Exam Master questions on the portal. What do you think a good score % is. Ive done about 150 questions so far and am getting about 10% lower than I did last year on the Kaplan AMA Qbank. I don't know if I should be getting a little scared or what.

What do you think?

Hey gagolden, I heard from an IM doc that alot of fellowships can scr** you over by reeling you in for an extra research fellowship year, making this year "voluntary" because they don't "have any 3rd year cardiology fellowship spots right now." SO instead of 3 years, it becomes 4---unless you have someone in your class that wants to do research or something. They said that this was pretty common and that IM residencies can be pretty cutthroat about things because people are competing for those fellowship positions. Makes me worry a little...

Yeah, Ive been hearing hearing that kinda thing latley. At first, it kinda bothered me, but now I don't mind anymore cause I had a epiphany (sp?) moment a couple of days ago. I don't want to do a fellowship anymore. I just want to do primary care. Im ready to head home, set up shop and start making babies 😀 I just wanna be a regular guy.

Has anyone else gotten there Eras token yet? I just want to get the next 3 months over with and figure out where the hell I'm gonna end up, and which hospital is going to be giving me my first pay check.

I have not seen the actual surgery, but I have seen the pseudo-vagina deal. Right now I'm in a place in chicago known as "Boy's Town." It is gay community in this city, and all you guys would love it here. NOT b/c you get tons of dude + dude action, but b/c there are TONS of hot women here. Seems like an old iowa city. Someone's genital have been treated well.
