Mike ditched me like a used beer can....He had other things to do, so it didn't work out.
What I do have is my FP Satori....
Sometime last week I figured out it that it's almost as important to "visit" as it is to diagnose and treat these folks.
I ended up asking about what one farmer sorta looking guy did and learned about horse breeding. I asked another guy with a New England accent about where he was from (Maine) and asked him additionally if he knew about Casco (he did). He said there's a ship ride you can take on a Tall Ship (like the old ones' with a bazillion sails) and pull rope like ship's company. That sounds like something I'd really like to do!
So in essence it's about knowing the people as much as it is about knowing what's wrong with them and how to treat it. Wild....
What I also have Zen about is applying for Pediatrics. Seeing kids (sick or otherwise) is really the best part of the day for me. I know I've yacked about a cancer fellowship, but even if that never came to fruition I think I could practice happily for many years as a General Pediatrician. (Patrician?)
I'm leaving Iowa for fourth year in 3 days. This will be the first time I'm outside the great state for more than a month in 3 years. I'm glad I came here to learn how to be a doctor. This is a very wholesome and beautiful state. If I wasn't committed somewhere else (Navy), I'd have a hard time leaving here in the summer.....You can, conversely, keep your f---ing winters.
One last thing: There's another blonde haired blue eyed medical assistant in Indianola named, "Jenna." There was one in Mason City for those of you who don't know... Is there some rule about having beautiful young ladies named Jenna around clinics?
Off to make more friends at the FP office!
