Des Moines University
Pros
  • Incredibly nice people
  • Great reputation
  • Good board pass rates and residency placement
  • In a city, so lots of resources/stores/things to do nearby

Cons
  • Midwest (grew up and went to college in the midwest, so not exposing myself to anything new)
  • Facilities a bit older/anatomy lab in a basement
  • Continuous course addition instead of block system
  • Limited early access to clinical situation

Campbell University SOM
Pros
  • Again, super nice faculty, staff, and students
  • Amazing board score and residency placement stats
  • Free clinic allows for early student exposure to clinical medicine
  • Newer, updated building with state of the art tech
  • non-Midwest which means newer experiences
  • Block system for curriculum

Cons
  • Not as established w/ reputation
  • Rural--would require commuting in from Raleigh suburb
  • Farther away from family

Summary: Basically both of these schools are really great choices in my eyes, which is why I'm having such difficulty deciding. Any comments/advice is welcomed!

Cusom: you don’t have to commute in (you can live there), attendance is mandatory, that student clinic is once a week with a waiting list to help so you will not be there a lot

While I do like CUSOM, I would go DMU because it's proven to a strong program with strong match lists for years. CUSOM's good track record is more recent.
