Do ADCOMS recognize students on here?
I remember Goro mentioned in a post he knew a couple of students at his school who were active SDNers. I can't find the exact post though.
I doubt it unless someone said something really notorious + identifying on here. Some do put SDN as an EC in their AMCAS, although i don't see the point of it unless they're a mod who did useful stuff here.

Jesus.. scraping the bottom of the barrel to try and find an EC..

Yeah it's pointless for regular members to do it. But SDN is unique in that it is a nonprofit educational organization, so it can be a valid EC if a member is volunteering for it. But being a volunteer means being a moderator.
I found out when I read the older MDApps of users who put SDN as an EC.
IDk, if you post your GPA and Your MCAT breakdown it shouldnt be hard to figure out who you are if you are on the other side of the table.I doubt it unless someone said something really notorious + identifying on here. Your anonymity on this forum is merely an illusion. Not long ago, a rogue group of adcoms, with the support of Comrade Putin, hacked into the SDN server and now have detailed files on all of us.
I've tried, and it's impossible. Maybe Admissions deans can suss it out, but for individual interviewers (like me), it' would have to be the luck of the drawer, and you posting enough info for me to say "oh, this guy is libertyyne."
I know that some of my students are posting in Osteo, but I have yet to figure out who they are. Even if I did, I wouldn't do anything. The last thing I need is someone posting "Ohmigod, Goro is one of my professors!!!!"

D0 adcoms sometimes read an application go through the numbers and say wait, this is @libertyyne!!
Does this end poorly or well for the applicant?
I recognized @Goro when I was interviewing but only because I'm pretty sure he's the only feline allowed to conduct admissions interviews

Doesn't help all that much unless we're talking a 3.9+/523+ from a lucky state, like Arkansas, Mississippi etc.

Yep. The only way adcoms can identify an applicant is if that applicant posts their entire application online with a lot of details. But luckily, they're aware anonymity matters so they don't divulge much (or delete their posts during app cycle).

@Catalystik feels left out. Although 2 years later, we have three new feline converts and additions, so @Goro is safe

And if you did
This is what you would find.

They definitely know who you are, OP. I'd be paranoid if I were you.
I am already three vpns deep and write comments in ascii which i transmit via morse code to person I employ in Mogadishu who translates and enters it in.They definitely know who you are, OP. I'd be paranoid if I were you.
You have made an incorrect assumption.I recognized @Goro when I was interviewing but only because I'm pretty sure he's the only feline allowed to conduct admissions interviews
Yes, there are more of us than you'd think.@Catalystik feels left out. Although 2 years later, we have three new feline converts and additions, so @Goro is safe

I think you're overestimating how much time people have.
As far as anonymity goes, some people in my class know who I am, but that's because I told them who I was. They tried guessing and couldn't on our school-specific thread from last year.

No, but if you attach a pic of a sloth astronaut to your lapel on interview day, I'd probably recall that I'd seen it somewhere before.D0 adcoms sometimes read an application go through the numbers and say wait, this is @libertyyne!!

Ahh, I guess my days as a memist are to end before they started. Many more.......
And on a few occasions I have been informed by adcom members who have identified posters on SDN as applicants, usually for negative reasons. Always be professional on SDN even when being critical
I think your avatar looks very professional.Ahh, I guess my days as a memist are to end before they started.

Just show them these when you feel they may be upset:

I doubt it. Even with an MCAT score and GPA, you really think you're the only applicant with a 515 MCAT and a 3.92 gpa....?
Also I hope they can't lmao. I'm not this grumpy/triggered/salty/mockingSPF-types in real life so I'd look like A JERK!!11

If you have anything unusual it should be easy. Plus you are already giving three or four pieces of information GPA, SGPA, MCAT, MCAT breakdown, Trad vs Non Trad. And possibly state of residence. It wouldnt take that much to figure out who you were, especially if something stands out like low gpa High MCAT, non trad, urm.I doubt it. Did you just low-key edit badger to sloth. No, but if you attach a pic of a sloth astronaut to your lapel on interview day, I'd probably recall that I'd seen it somewhere before.
Thank you though. I try to put my best foot forward.

Also i just doubt that most adcoms are really ON here actuvely enough to gather that info.
Oops, it's a slothstronaut avatar. what was I thinking? Sorry. Will edit.

So if i want adcoms to know I should put my avatar image on the top of the resume I hand out from my pad folio.
Sounds like a plan!!!So if i want adcoms to know I should put my avatar image on the top of the resume I hand out from my pad folio.
I imagine that if anyone from my school really cared, they could figure out who I am since I was the sole EDP applicant and I'm fairly active in the school-specific thread.
At least it keeps me from being too much of a jerk on SDN. [emoji51]

No way, you too?
I've only identified one and that was a non-trad and a graduate of a military academy.
I hope I don't get identified. If there's ever a turkish guy in a medical school, people might assume it's Turkishking from SDN lol
I knew my strategy involving deleting every social media account I have and aggressively seeding google with false results with my name would pay off. I guess I will be able to join Facebook again when I retire.my file/standard posting on this:

Assume all social media may be searched and seen by Adcoms so always be professional. One of the admission directors at a particular school is doing her doctorate in social media and medical student selection. Some medical schools have added an internet background search step usually post-interview, per-selection as due diligence to find any obvious issue. With automation and some software this is easy to do
This is a much larger issue for medical residents in applicant selection with many medical specialty academies and GME (residency) programs issue guidelines and, in some cases, strict agreements on social media use while in a program. The reason for this has been patients and families have started to look up doctors who are treating them. A case then was a 3rd year peds residents was treating a young girl and the next day the parents came in screaming to take that doctor away from my daughter or I will sue. Turned out the parents were freaked about a photo from a drunken frat party taken some 10 years earlier was posted on a social media site with this doctor tagged. (I will find the original case report and add it).
In the meanwhile there have been a slew of studies done on this to the point that AAMC has guidelines for applicants (first in list)
