yes everything that you ever took that's classified as a natural science or math will count. Social sciences won't.

wow...i was under the impression that only pre-medical sciences count towards science GPA.

or just BCPM...like would my geology classes be calculated or no?

NO. The previous reply is incorrect, only the courses offered under the Math, biology, chemistry, and physics department count towards your science GPA look in the AMCAS app guidelines.

That's not necessarily true. You can take stuff like Ecology or Earth Science or other things that do end up in your BCPM. It just depends on the classification. (Trust me, this isn't always a good thing)

what about astronomy? at my school there is a "physics and astronomy" department, kind of integrating the two....theres a very interesting intro astronomy class that i would love to count in my science gpa

will it?

This isn't true either. I took classes in the psychology department that counted towards my BCPM. The classes had a heavy neuroscience component (psychophysiology, cognitive neuropsychology) and I marked them off as biological science even though they were classified as psychology. AMCAS didn't change them.

This is all explained ad-nauseum in the AMCAS guidelines.

so anything counts within the biology department? im thinking of taking a 101 class in biology called topics of organismal biology, but this does not count towards the 1 year requirement of biology...but will this class count in my gpa?

As has been said, it's all about the course content. If your bio course involves biology, then it will count towards your BCPM. If your bio course doesn't involve biology, your GPA may be the least of your worries.
