Could someone point me in the right direction for explaining how DO vs MD residencies work? I know that they are supposed to be combined in the near future, but what does that mean exactly?

Can you take 1 board exam and apply to both? Or if you are at a DO school would you still need to take USMLE to apply to MD residencies? Thanks!

As a DO student you must take the comlex no matter what.

AOA programs look at comlex (I'm sure some consider usmle as well but since they are osteopathic, comlex is the focus). Many acgme programs will consider comlex but at the end of the day, are used to and more than likely prefer usmle. Many competitive acgme programs will not consider comlex.

General rule is to always shoot to take the usmle as well unless you're really doing bad. You limit your options of residency programs by not taking the usmle.
