I am retaking my DAT end of June and wanted to apply early since my stats aren't that good. 3.0 sgpa, 3.5 opga and 3.3 bcp. My old DAT score is a 19 aa and 20 TS. I've been studying and feel like I can score 23+( based on current practice exams).

Should I wait until I have my new DAT score ( exam June 26) so I don't get rejected right off the bat. Would schools even look at my app again if I submit with my old DAT scores then send in my new DAT score.

More info- I've been involved with research, rda for 3 years, tutor, TA. not URM. I'm also a re-applicant. Texas resident- applying very broadly ( lots of oos)

Thanks

You should be able to indicate if and when you are retaking the DAT. Then I think they will wait until they get those scores before considering your application complete?

Take the DAT as an insurance policy, in case you need to reapply. Your DAT score is not “bad” but you cannot afford to be late in the app cycle. Part of my success in the app cycle 2 years ago even with low-is was applying within the 1st week of June.
Ok, so should I go ahead and apply first week of June with my 19aa and 20ts DAT score and then indicate that I’m retaking? Or should I submit everything to be verified asap and wait for my New DAT? Also, any dental school recommendations based on my stats? I’m applying broadly but suggestions would help.

Im in a similar situation and was thinking of applying in the end of June and retaking dat in first few weeks of July. I got a 17 AA first time as I didnt get to study much. GPA is high 3.4 overall and science is 3.2/3.3. Im also retaking just one class until August but that class will have its own transcript sent later. What are your thoughts? I didnt want to apply first few weeks of June as I need to really do well on DAT and want them to look at my application and get DAT score around same time I was thinking?

Well, just apply to 1 school and submit you application so everything is processed. Then once your DAT is done then add new schools so they get the application with your DAT and you don't have to wait for processing time.

Submit everything with your old DAT. Use your new DAT score in case you need to reapply. Because if you indicate on your AADSAS that you’re waiting on your new DAT score, then they won’t process your apps at all until you take your DAT, which is kinda pointless. And I have several classmates that applied 3 times and got accepted.

If you can reschedule to an earlier date, that would be much better. Because August is very late in the cycle and tbh 17 AA is not strong, given your GPA (btw which is exactly what I had, but with a 21 AA and “unique” nontrad experiences)
OH no im taking the DAT in first few weeks of July. So ill be done by July 15 Im hoping. I am willing to take it earlier if I feel ready however I havent exactly started practicing so that is what I will work on in June. However, I am apply by June 25 I am hoping. And letting them know I am retaking DAT so everything gets in on time. And I am submitting my transcript request form to my university sometime next week I was thinking. I am just taking one more class at a different university so that class is a retake and they wont get that transcript until August.

Do they reject you right away if they see a very low DAT first time and u indicate you are retaking it?

You can submit your application whenever you want. Put your old score and indicate you are taking the DAT on whatever your date is. Many schools will hold decisions until they get your new score, but that's fine. I submitted my new score in mid August and still got 6 interviews.

19AA and 20TS is not bad. Tbh if you dont get interviews its gonna be because of your GPA or other factors in your appliction. I dont know your whole situation but maybe consider a post bacc or masters. However, if you do get 23+ like you say, youll be all set !

Thank you everyone for your input and the link to the old thread. very helpful!
