Hey guys!

So intent to register is around the corner for me and i'm stuck...again. To help explain, my options are Microbiology & Immunology, Pharmacology & Toxicology or Biology.

I cannot decide between a Medical Science degree or Biology degree. The medical science degrees have more work -lower marks- while the biology degree is just... biology -higher marks-.

Do the adcoms take into account the different science degrees? Would they look highly upon me if I had a Microbio degree?

The second part of my questions is regarding Specialization vs Honors Specialization. I am not 100% if this is relevant to degrees in the states but in Canada an honors specialization degree would include a 1.5 credit research thesis project in 4th year while specialization would normally exclude it. I WOULD do the honors if it gave me any leverage but if it were my choice i'd run as far as I can from it.

Thanks for the help everyone!

as far as I know, all degrees are looked at equally. Just do all the prereqs and get good grades. I have a music degree and if you look around lots of others here have non-science degrees as well. Best of luck!

I have engineering degree and work experience. My interviewer at UPenn told me that there are two majors that are easier to teach hands on skills, art majors and engineers.

wherever you are...do anything in which you will excel

I am a microbiology major and I love it. It covers all the pre-reqs accept Anatomy and psychology. I have been tested on the same thing over and over in all of my classes. I often laugh at how similar everything is and also now that I'm in my senior year I can just sit back and relax. Some cool classes too like parasitology, pathology and viralogy. Biology is kind of ok i guess accept I don't enjoy learning about any other animals accept humans. Why would I want to know the anatomy of a frog?
