I never said a pod was going to perform a heart surgery, however I am suggesting a pod is the best resource in F/A health - including surgery. Again, I don't think you've read what ive said very carefully.

I have read what you wrote. What you have written is coming from an uninformed place. Good luck with your goals.

For everyone else:

MDs and DOs are physicians

DPMs are, well, they're DPMs

Right... Well, I guess I'll pull the DO student response here: "say what you want, but in ten years when I'm sitting at my desk in private practice making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year as a surgeon, you can call me whatever you want"

Haha, yeah, there's a degree of irony here.

Still tryin to figure out why there is so much hate among people in this thread. Who is better at F/A? Well as long as either gets the job done correctly....who cares? This is coming from somebody who (god forbid mention this on sdn) is contemplating ortho. The ortho I shadow gets along great with our DPM....granted there is a bit of competition between the two but hey...its life.

Arguing on the internet is stupid man.....im sure if this thread was real life fists would be flying right now....

Actually..with the three or four winners that have continued this threads arguments, I imagine it more as a slap fight with some hair pulling.

Hahaha used to see that crap all the time in my bartending days....it usually turned into somebody pulling a weapon eventually though....

That's irrelevant. The point remains that just because ANY surgery might cost more than a podiatry surgery doesn't mean that that surgeon is better, regardless of specialty.

Also: you never mentioned orthos, so......

This really only demonstrates your inability to track a conversation. From here on out whenever I want to throw you off and win an argument with you I will just jingle my keys in front of you 😛

So what does it say about the guy who took the time to come in and make the holier than thou post? 😉

DO's generally take COMLEX + USMLE and courses for OMT + the standard course load of an MD. Where's the badge of shame there?

Where are the posts that say it is shameful to be DO? 🙄

I tracked the argument just fine, but I needed to sleep, so i had to throw out something childish to hold down the fort until morning. Im actually really surprised this thread hasn't been closed yet. We've been talking about DPMs for the last so many posts which is way off topic.

Anyways, DPMs rock, and I don't have a problem with DOs.

I hope you can read back and notice all the times that we've said DPMs are necessary. It is only certain claims of scope that were called into question

Necessary, but bad at their job (or rather not as good). Yeah dude, I can read. No worries.

If a patient asks what the difference between an MD and a DO degree, what would you say?

I would say its kinda like the difference between a bachelors of science verses a bachelors of the arts degree in the same field. The bachelors of the arts degree have to take more artsy and cultural classes.

See, this is the problem. You seem to think the two statements are the same
They are not. Pods are excellent at their job. Many of the things we are discussing constitute broadening of the scope of practice and are under debate in many states as we speak (at least at the lobbyist level) so by definition, the things we've said they are not as good at, are not their job to begin with 😉
Nuance, my friend..... nuance.

in the majority of cases, DPMs are not even allowed to amputate. If they are the forefront experts on the health of the human foot, shouldnt they be the ones calling the shots on whether or not a foot is salvagable? If they are the premier surgical experts on the foot, shouldn't they at least be able to handle chopping the sucker off?

Pods can do FOOT surgery in all states, it's the ANKLE that only 5 states say they cannot perform surgery on.

Pods can do LEG surgery in at least 17 states, and are chief of surgery at some hospitals..... So... it definitely is within their scope to do foot and ankle surgery....

So... no, not many states, only 5.

Ill recount the info in my link there when I'm off my phone but I think you are mistaken slightly. And out of curiosity, which hospitals have DPMs as chiefs of surgery?

Remember that chapelle skit about the.black guy in the kkk?

Wow, I never thought I'd come back to see like two more pages of posts. I can't believe this thread didn't completely devolve into a "your degree sucks" thread after all the people involved. Bravo.

we do what we can, man . The "your degree sucks" argument is just a pissing match, but the problem arises when people interpret the statement "I disagree with you saying you are as good at a specific action as this other more highly trained person" as the same as "you are teh lamez! and you have ugly kidzz!!!"

It baffles me how these statements often get confused.

lol, yep. That's the internet for ya.

Still, this thread defied the first law of SDN: Given enough time and enough posters, any thread turns into a pissing match regardless of the original topic.

obviously you are wrong and are stupid for saying so 😉

I dont get it? Anyway... Here is the definition of an argument "in philosophy and logic, an argument is an attempt to persuade someone of something by giving reasons or evidence for accepting a particular conclusion" taken from good ol' wikipedia (not the greatest reference). But as you can clearly see now....i was not arguing.

Nope, you were, you tried persuading him you save your arguments for real life.

Also: I only have two minutes left on my AAMC break, so I gotta dash.

Dude, if you're taking a practice test then why in the world are you on the internet during your break?

Not me! I'm pre-pod. Plus, not first year.
