Do FTDs (MUST) apply through PASS? Do they need to MATCH?

Hello,
I need to know if residency programs require FTDs to submit through PASS unless specified otherwise?

Also, I need to know what does the MATCH do? I know its for filling spots in residencies but does it apply to internationals or US citizens?

thirdly, If I somehow win the lottery for Grun carte, do I get the local base pay, or do I pay the 100% surcharge if I got enrolled then the visa somehow came by.

Lastly, if I finish a US post-grad study, what are the best follow-up cont. ed. programs out there for ortho?

I'll update as necessary, and thanks in advance.

You keep asking questions and I don't think anyone has the slightest clue what you're talking about.

But i'll do my best.

PASS/MATCH is program specific...not country specific. So go to their website. If it says they require PASS/MATCH then in order to apply you'll need: a Pass application and to enroll in the Match.

From what I can tell from your previous posts you never took NBDE 1 or 2...but you also said that your GPA is low. This GPA is from where, a US school? I'm not sure what programs are going to look at your application if you can't provide an NBDE score and have a very low GPA (3.2).

I think you're gonna have to identify the program(s) you want to attend and call them on the phone. Try to tone down the crazy though 😀 jk

Also, i think there's an international forum here or on DT or something...i think your questions would be more apt there as almost everyone in these forums is USA born and bred

Dave, thank you for your reply. I am looking forward to Orthodontics C.A.G.S. with MSD. I intend to take the program and go back to my country since I already have a practice here in Egypt. Its not like I want to stick to America. Its just that I need to make sure that the application cycle for 2013 covers most universities, otherwise, I will go ahead and take the membership from England-Glasgow, although I'm not sure it equates to a consultant or a specialist here in Egypt, which is a ****hole when it comes to this fine print between the lines. Anyways, I understand the part about schools specifying through PASS/MATCH or direct straight application by mail.

My question which I failed to clear, is:

Does PASS/MATCH help the chances of enrollment better than direct application? My perception of PASS is -> a middleman, on my behalf, applies to the universities I specify.

My perception of MATCH is -> a body that has the names of candidates using their services, and they (MATCH) assign the candidate based on schools announcing availability of spots to be filled by PASS applicants according to their didactic and clinical expertise. Am I right?

Further, If I take Masters in Ortho from an Egyptian local university (recognized), and then decide to apply to the Masters in the states, do I get better chances of being accepted?

You seem to get it.

Pass is a middleman, but a a necessary one. Most schools now say on the website that PASS is required. So, will it help your chances of getting in? yes...absolutely.

Match...you got this too. Following these programs interviewing, you willl rank them on match and they will rank you and a computer program will match you.

PASS/MATCH have been linked for the last 2-3 years...and most programs that accept PASS are on the MATCH system...and all programs on the MATCH system are on PASS.

I think i saw you posted before you were worried that the programs will see everything you applied for...that doesn't happen. Most interviewers will ask you "where else did you apply", but they never get a list of where you sent an application or where you ranked in match when that time comes.

In terms of doing a foreign ortho program...I'm sure that would help your chances of getting into a US program, but i dont know that it would be a guaranteed in, so I don't know that it's worth it. I'm def. not an expert on ortho, but ortho in the US is one of the most competitive of the specialties...so youre fighting an uphill battle.

Thank you so much for clearing that up Dave. Happy New Year!
