Hi there...
I am applying to 6 OT programs for fall of 2012... I didn't get to start applying until a few weeks ago as I am a busy college student who is finishing up my undergrad...

i thought that I had a decent chance of getting in given my stats, but I am not so confident looking at the stats of all you amazing future OTs... given my stats do you think that I am wasting my time applying right now??

GPA- 3.887
prerec GPA- 4.0
observation hours- 74... I know I should have more but these are in about 5 different locations
other experience- I have a sister with an autistic spectrum disorder, non-ot related volunteer experience with special needs individuals, experience teaching special needs children piano lessons, and work experience in a residential facility for handicapped individuals
GRE score- 157 verbal, 157 math, 4.5 analytical writing...

I am just gonna keep going with this... My essays are decently strong (I have had a few people I know who are in academia look at them), and I think my recommendations are too...
Let me know what you think... as much as I want this, whatever God has for me I will be ok with 🙂

Blessings,
Liz

I have to say, with those stats, I think you're a shoe-in. I was recently admitted to USC early decision with a 3.71 gpa, 3.9 prereq, 160V, 149Q, 4.5W, and only about 80 observation hours. But I emphasized how other volunteer hours in special needs really helped me to see the entire scope of the field from a different perspective. Also, the fact that you have a sister on the autism spectrum should give you a boost if you write about that in your essays! I say go for it!

I'm not trying to be a ***** but why would you even ask if you had a chance when your gpa is almost a 4.0??? That's like someone who gets an A- on a test and complaining they did a bad job. Just weird.

I read this thread and that it must be a joke.

If you don't get it then I sure as hell am not getting in

Calm down everyone... lol. I didn't mean this like a joke, but in all seriousness, I know that schools look at MUCH more than just GPA. I feel that I have a strong GPA, but not as much experience in OT as others... I really don't know what schools look at most carefully... guess we'll all find out! Sorry if this offended anyone and good luck to you all 🙂
