I am a white male with a 3.99 GPA. I have taken the MCAT twice. 1st time: v6 p10 b11 wsN. 2nd time: v10 p7 b12 wsM. I also have a decent amount of clinical work and volunteer experience. I applied to Georgetown, Emory, Wake Forest, and University of Virginia as well as my two state schools. Do I even have a chance at getting into any of these schools? Any feedback on what I could do now to improve my chances would be greatly appreciated.

Technically everyone has a shot.

Maybe you should add a few more schools. Most people apply to at least 10 (depends of course, on what state you're in). Those are some really random MCAT scores.

Yeah - you do. You'll be fine.

I think you'll be good, OP. You're GPA is really really good, and adcoms will definitely see that. Just work hard on your essays and LOR's.

Good Luck! 🙂🙂

lsutiger,

You do have a chance, but to have an even better chance you SHOULD apply to more schools. Even people with 3.9 gpa and high 30's on mcat apply to at least 10 schools. This whole process is a crapshoot and so to highly increase your chances, I would suggest to apply to about 20 schools. The reason I say 20 is because eventhough you have a GREAT gpa, your mcat scores are a bit lower than many schools avg. If you apply to the schools that you mentioned, add to that about 10 private out-of-state med schools and a few top 10-20 schools, you should get a good amount of interviews which will greatly increase your chances at getting accepted. Lets say that on average if you have 3-4 interviews, you will get 1 acceptance (maybe even more interview per acceptance, but these are just numbers that I think are pretty logical). If you only apply to the 6 schools that you mentioned that means that you have to get an interview invite at most of these schools just to have a logical chance at an acceptance.

Let just say that if I had your numbers, I would apply to 20-30 schools. On the other hand, applying to this many schools really costs a lot of $ and that might be a problem for some people.

Well, agree with me or not, that was my 2 cents.
