Hello everybody, I'm hoping you could give me some direction on whether I should go forward with applying for vet med. I have completed a BSc degree already and I am 5 courses short of having all of my pre-vet requirements. I'm considering going back for a term at UBC to complete those 5 more courses, and then applying to WCVM.
I'm concerned because I don't even know if I have any sort of chance! I don't want to go back for those 5 courses if it sounds like it won't be worth it.
My GPA is about 3.1, I have 200 hours volunteer work at a vet clinic, 3000 hours work at a kennel, 3000 hours work at a wildlife centre, and about 500 hours volunteer work with wildlife rehabilitation.
I feel like my experience is solid, but my grades could be a lot better. In your honest opinion, do you think there is any chance that WCVM would interview me?

I would say it depends on which province you're applying from. If you are applying as an SK or MB resident... maybe. If you're applying as a BC or AB applicant, you will probably not get an interview with a 3.1 GPA, although 1/3 of your grades score also depends on your best year with a full course load. If that's really high, it could still be possible.

Edit since I saw your post in the other thread: If you do not have at least one academic year where you have taken 5 courses for both the fall and winter semesters, you will not get an interview.

Former BC rez here!

When I applied to WCVM the first time I had a 3.29 and didn't get an interview. I had a really low rank.

Interviews are given based on grades alone.

My suggestion: go back to school, take a full course load and ace every class - that should get you an interview! At least that's how I got my first one with them 😉

If you can province jump, do it! BC has a larger applicant pool than SK or MB. If you want more info on that let me know.

Ok, now I'm confused! 😱 I got this in am email from Heather at WCVM: "A full year must contain at least 24 credits in the Sept – Apr term, so that would be four 3-credit courses in the Sept-Dec term and another four 3-credit courses in the Jan-Apr term."

I would really, obviously, prefer to take 4 courses only! 😀

I think what Braki meant is that they much prefer to see 5 courses/semester, but 4 meet the requirements as full-time (like Heather said).

"All university work undertaken is considered when evaluating academic performance. The courseload of the applicant is a consideration. Applicants who have not taken a full courseload (i.e. 30 credits for an academic session) could be at a disadvantage when evaluating academic performance."
