Do I have a realistic chance at top/good private universities with ZERO research experience?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Good Evening Dr. X,

My name is coconutts and I am a student at University of X. I am interested in pursuing medicine, and your work with pediatric patients with Down syndrome is something that I am very passionate about and would like to observe in a clinical setting. If you have the time, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to shadow you. I understand how busy your schedule as a physician is, but please let me know if this is a possibility. I am in X for the entirety of the academic year aside from winter break.

If your schedule does not allow for shadowing, I fully understand and appreciate your consideration. If you would be kind enough to refer me to any opportunities to get more involved with the Down syndrome community in a more clinical setting, I would greatly appreciate it.

Best Regards,
coconutts

Much better. Get rid of "academic year aside from winter break" and just replace it with actual dates and you're good to go. Cold emailing physicians for shadowing can be tedious and you should be prepared to have less success than you might hope. As was mentioned above if you can use any sort of connection to get in with a doc the better.

Haha I posted the letter on reddit as well and they thought I was trolling. Leave it to a philosophy student to be way too wordy and over-the-top! Thank god for the internet.

yea lol, my emails asking for rec letters for residency were shorter than that. You're asking to shadow them not marry them. They either are ok with having a student or they aren't.
