Just wondering if anyone can tell me if I have any cvhance of getting into any dental school with my following stats?

DAT:18/20/17

have been a dental hygienist for past 3 yrs, have about 100 hours volunteer work

You would have gotten in 10 years ago with those stats, but the standards are a lot higher today. Go to a master's or post-bac. to boost up that GPA. You should also retake the DAT and get 20s because that is what schools will expect next cycle.

The odds are against you if you apply with those stats. If you're serious about dental school, you should apply to a post-bacc or masters program and try to get that GPA up. Also, I think you are in a good position to shoot for 21+ on the DAT with no section under 18.

1. Retake the DAT. Aim for 21-22+
2. Enroll in a one-year masters program to show dental schools that you can handle graduate level curriculum.
3. your experience in the dental field is great but will not compensate for low stats.

Best bet, do postbac and get at least 3.45 gpa.

Retake the dat with nothing below a 19.

Otherwise, you are giving the adcom cold feet in interviewing you because they are afraid you won't survive dental school.

Your passion is definetly there with the 3 year dental hygiene and 100+ volunteer hour. Just work on the academics. Show them proof that you can do it!

you have no chance. i had a 20AA 21 TS 19 pat and then a 3.03 overall and 3.13 science. applied to 31 schools, not one interview. you need to get gpa way up. im on my second year now, finishing it up of post bacc work and i havea 3.8 last three semesters but still no interviews. and your dat you need to riase to a 20 AA atleast.

Clearly there must be other deficits in your application (lack of EC, bad letters of rec, crappy personal statement). Even with a low gpa you have shown that you can do well (3.8 last 3 semesters) and you have a solid DAT score. People with low gpas do get in, it may just take them longer than someone with a 3.7 and 20+ DAT.

i think you do have a shot if you apply very early. my stats are pretty much like yours but maybe a little better and i got into Tufts.

my dat is like 19TS/18AA/20pat. sci gpa is 3.19 and average gpa is 3.56. I did research in college and have about 200+ hrs shadowing experience. Since you are a dental hygienist for 3 yrs, you definitely have more experience than i do. i applied pretty late like at the end of Aug. and have had 2 interviews so far. I think if you apply early and apply to 10+ schools that take ppl w/ average/low stats, you may get one or two interviews and you'll get in if you get luck and get a very good interviewer.

However, just like what the others said, if you really want to get into dental school, you better do a master program to raise your gpa and/or retake your dat. As you can tell, the trend in dat scores is increasing each yr and you want to be a competitive candidate among all other applicants.

I agree with Albuterol. Do a post-bacc and get really good grades. This will prove to the adcom that you're committed to dentistry and that you'll be able to survive 4 years of dental school. Also retake the DAT and shoot for 20s across the board.

These peeps are way too harsh. You can get in with those grades. You should apply to the easiest schools, of course. My best advice would be to get your application in as early as possible. I mean, the day AADSAS accepts applications, yours better be there at 8AM. My grades weren't hot either, but I had my ducks in a row and was told that at multiple interviews. Make sure your letters of recommendation are from people with nice titles like Dean of Biology or Assistant Dean of whatever you majored in.
