Hi Everyone!

I'm new to SDN, I've read through multiple forums about the MCAT. I will be taking it for the second time. I am planning on taking the Kaplan course in Portland, Oregon and need advice.

I had a hard time studying on my own the first time so I am taking the kaplan course to help me focus. My first time studying for the MCAT, i read through the 1,000 and some pages Kaplan premeir book and also read through most of the ExamKracker prep books. I like exam krackers better but there is no classroom course offered by them in Oregon.

Thus, I was wondering if any one had any suggestions for when I take the classroom course with kaplan. Should I buy any other prep company books? (im thinkin bout purchasing exam krackers question books such as the 101 verbal passages. I also read that berkley review has good books for every other subject?). I want to get a really good score this time and am committed to study for four months or longer if i have to so i never take to take the test again after this 2nd time.

Anywho, thanks for reading this long message of mine and thank you in advance for your advice!!

Well, I took Kaplan and will receive my scores on Tuesday so I can let you know how it goes. But I felt that the only reason you'd want to take Kaplan (or any classroom course) would be if you need the motivation to get you to study, which I don't think you do based on your description here.

I would read the 3 month study guide by SN2ed for materials to buy. Good luck!

thanks KPCOFGS, hope it turns out well!! did you use any other prep books besides the kaplan stuff from the course? Also, i tried searching for the 3 month guide real quick but couldnt find it... what do i search under? thanks!

Here's SN2ed's 3 month study plan, if this is what you were referrring to.

Also, I took the Kaplan course, and I agree with KPCOFGS, its best because it forces you to study. Other than that, not so great ... especially their verbal strategy, its time consuming and really not that effective. Their science review books are pretty good though, I feel.

If you feel you could study on your own, I would just get some good books and stick to a plan. I know Examkrackers has a 3-month home study plan on their website, and of course there is SN2ed's 3 or 4 month plan. And you can read plenty about all the books here on SDN to find out which ones are the best.
