Hey everyone!

I'm currently a Canadian senior in High School enrolled in the IB program, and was hoping to head to Europe after I graduate for the 6 year medical program. Unfortunately, I have taken IB biology and IB chemistry, but not physics as it is not offered at my school. I was just wondering if there are any school in Europe that would accept me even without my taking physics, as of right now, I only know of 1: University of Szeged in Hungary. If anyone also has any information on this school, that would be awesome!

Thanks, and happy thanksgiving!!!

Jeremy

Yes, there are schools that accept this. I also did the IB program when I was in high school (although I took IB Physics SL) but I really think that the biophys. taught in medical school (biophys.) is very mathematical oriented (yes they do have formulas and stuff but you have to always apply to the medical concepts). I do have a friend who never took Physics (depsite having done IB Bio SL+HL and Chem SL). We do have a subject called Biophysics in the first semester (virtually in every medical school curricula in Europe) but it really wasn't that bad. You'll also come across a bit of physics in physiology (in 2nd year). I go to the Charles University First Faculty of Medicine, Prague and in the entrance exam, they have an option of physics or math (in addition to chemistry and biology of course), so you can choose one (the math part is really a joke: mostly stuff from algebra, algebra 2, geometry and a bit of precalc.)

A little knowledge of physics would certainly help but I know of several students who've never even done physics in their life (except for in middle school) but they passed and didn't really have that big of a problem. So I think you'll be fine (just work on the biophys. manual that you get when you're in med school everyday and you'll definitely pass). Hope that helps.

university of semmelweis. basically all the hungarian ones since most of the entrance exams are based on 1 exam
