Actually I'm going to completely disregard my coworkers words. On medicine period.

They just said they want to do emergency medicine for a couple years before "moving on" to neurosurgery. Lulz whaaaa?

Tell them if they're really good, they can skip intern year after med school (they can skip residency if they're excellent).

I have never heard of something so deserving of a face palm. Gah!

So I'm sitting at work chatting with my coworker, who is also applying to medical school currently (MD only though).

She was surprised that DOs can do family medicine. I asked her what she thought DOs do, and she was like "idunno, physical therapy?"

Has anyone faced this kind of ignorance before? And most importantly does it die down in a community of medical professionals?

I am presently attending a Post Bac program at a MD school. Some of my professors are DO. In my locale, MD and DO work completely together. I have relatives and family friends that are physicians. Both MD and DO. In my locale, people see no difference. One day, many physicians in our area think the degree will combine. MD's in our area are learning Osteopathic Manipulation. on a side note...................one of the greatest doctors I know is a DO. Sponsors a whole village in Nepal and worked with Mother Teresa. People never asked if he was a DO or MD! Face it people, we are ALL doctors no matter if the degree after your name is MD or DO. It's what you do with the degree that matters!
