Interesting, I did not see a UTSW IM match nor a BUMC match.

Don't think I've ever seen a UTSW IM match ever. I can't believe no one matched JPS EM either. Match lists are weird and hard to interpret.

There was a kid from Touro NY who matched UTSW IM 2 years ago. That was it though. Yeah no JPS EM was strange to see

Saw on Twitter Nova matched EM at Hopkins. They have DOs in the EM program but they usually take one every other year on average.

Per Twitter:
EM @ Duke
Radiology @ Northwestern
IR @ tOSU
Radiology @ Brown
IM @ UMinn
Rad @ OHSU
Gen Surg @ OHSU
Rad Onc @ Mayo Arizona
OB @ Emory
Rad @ UMich
IR @ IU

Is this HF main? Or one of the DO programs. Because that is a BIG difference. HF Main has never taken a DO before. SIU and CC are baller GS matches. So is KU-Wichita even though most people wouldn't know that.

Overall a very solid GS list out of KCU.

I don’t think it would matter though. Everything is ACGME now. I agree that it’s a very solid GS match list.

Of course it matters. There's still a difference between matching a former AOA program and an original ACGME program. That anti-DO bias is obviously still there at the latter places. And I swear this is a banned user. Mods, work your magic.

Having just been through the process, it does still matter depending on what field you're aiming for and what your goals are. That's not to say there aren't prior AOA programs just as good as ACGME ones, but from my experience, as well as some of my fellow classmates, prior-AOA programs are more likely to be lacking in one area or another.

It matters a lot. There is a big difference between Henry Ford main and Henry Ford Allegiance.

I agree there is a big difference and I believe the ortho match was indeed at South Pointe. However this thread really isn't the place to be schooling people. One dude said it didnt matter. We all know it does. Just let it go. Save the schooling and correcting for other threads such as the DO vs carib MD thread we all know and love

Not schooling, it’s just a different place locationally so I clarified. South pointe is a VERY hard place to interview and match at, and it is a huge accomplishment. Like all ortho matches

Congratulations, this is an impressive feat! I’m sure it feels great to finally get a spot.

You have no idea how happy I am. My girlfriend matched emergency medicine at the same hospital too without a couples match. Literally beat the odds this year. Last year sucked but I wouldn’t want it to be any different.

That’s even better! You should share what you did the second time to make you successful as you’re statistically less likely to match, even more so as a DO.

I’ll keep it pretty simple. I should’ve matched last year. Great boards. Crushed auditions. I just interviewed poorly. I reached out to PDs that interviewed me the year before not to be a sob story but explain that I was ready to try harder. I interviewed at 5 programs this year and 3 interviewed me for the second time. The program I matched at was 1.5 hours away from my transitional year. I went to their fracture conference every Friday 20 weeks in a row. Also my TY let me do a one month out rotation at that program. I had to take PTO and do extra shifts to make it work, but it’s what I looked forward to every week. I eventually went golfing and drank beers with the group after continuously showing up. They truly feel like a family.

RowanSOM also had these in addition to what was already listed (child neuro @ yale, IM @ cleveland clinic, EM @ Columbia/Cornell, etc)
- Neurosurgery. I dont know where yet
- RadOnc at Jefferson
- a match in Hawaii, which is typically competitive for numerous reasons
- UC Davis for Gen Surg
- multiple ortho matches (I think everyone who applied ortho matched ortho)
- interventional rads. Don't know where yet

6 DO graduates matched ortho. Me and my friend came from DMU and did our intern year together both matched ortho this year!

Just ran some super rough numbers. But, pre-SOAP it looks like 54.7% of DOs matched into a PC speciality if you only count FM/IM/Peds as PC, but if you want to include psych and OB that number is 64%. 23% of DOs matched into Rad, EM, Anesthesia, Gen Surg combined. And 10% matched into a surgical specialty of some kind (I did not include any of the Surgical prelim matches in that calculations so % is probably higher bc some of them will end up in a surgical specialty).

I always am curious as to why DO schools don't release the full match list until months later, if at all.

Whoops that's my mistake. I put that in the wrong category. The match was for FM not IM.

Graduating from Rowan, we did really well this year! Extremely happy for our class

Vascular surg integrated: RWJ
EM - Northwell LIJ, St Joes 3x
Anesthesiology - RWJ, Thomas Jeff and NJMS
