I am a non-trad and I just realized that you need two semesters of English. I have one semester of English writing from undergrad and one semester of "oral communication" from undergrad. I think the oral communication would count as speech on my ACOMAS application, even though it was considered an English course at my undergrad. Does this mean that I do not fulfill the two semesters of English requirements?

I am going to call the schools on Monday and call and or e-mail ACOMAS, but in the meantime does anyone have any experience with this? I have taken a bunch of Spanish classes, and earned a top score in my college's writing program... could/would medical schools waive this requirement for me?

What should I do if this is the case? Can I sign up for an English class after I submit my application and then update my ACOMAS and AMCAS application after I sign up for the course?

Thank you for your help.

I was told by AACOMAS last year that any if a class was taught by an English department at your school, it was English class.

But it would not hurt to call. And if you do need it, they will inform you so on an acceptance offer (the personalized one you get after all the emails). At which time you can sign up for it at your local CC to save cash.

Okay... so I might be safe not taking it until after I am accepted to medical school? So I will essentially be accepted on the condition that I take the class before I enroll?

Yea, you don't need it when you are applying but if you get accepted you should definitely have the class. That could be grounds for them to rescind the acceptance.

Is it something that I should have as "planned" in my application or will I just know upon acceptance that I need to take this course before I enroll and then I can just sign up? Will the schools be less likely to accept me because I did not tell them that I was "planning" to take the course?

Thank you for all your help! 🙂
