I'm so happy that I want to share with you all. I just got accepted from OHSU last night. I was in waited list. Now they finally accepted me. I'm so happy.

First time, I applied to a lot of schools about like 20 schools...all turned down, only USC and OHSU called me for an interview. Eventually I got in waited list in both.

Second time apply, applied to bunch of schools, but only OHSU and USC called me again and again I got in waited list. This time i was very depressed. I felt like my future was really closed in front of my eyes. I really have no hope at all but for some reasons I don't want to believe that i'm hopeless. My parents and everybody around me tried to lift up my spirit. they were afraid that i'm gonna give up. They advised me to retake the DAT again. I was actually studying for it and planning to take it during August for my third try. I also think about plan B if the third try failed. But God finally answered to my prayer. I received an email last night informing my acceptance....Gosh...I was screaming happily so loud that my mom thought someone broke into my house.:laugh::laugh:😀

So my point is do not give up your hope. I'm so glad that I never thought of giving up. I put all my hope in God's hand. I trust him in the end. "God will make a way even if it seems there is no way. He will work in a way that we cannot see..." I love this song so much it stucks in my mind....and i can see it his hands work on me.

My stats were not that great....
GPA: 3.3 Sci 3.2
DAT: TS 19/PAT 18/AA 18

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! What a great story! Go out and celebrate big! 👍 I can't wait to be in your shoes.

wow congrats!

yes, God will do wonders and thank you for encouraging story!
you must feel really good now you don't have to study for DAT again haha

Thank you for sharing that story, it was really inspiring to read. Congratulations and you deserve it for working so hard. Also thanks for being honest about your stats.....with so many people claiming to have 3.8 GPA's and 24 DAT, I was really starting to wonder 🙂

congrats to you.

Are you an Oregon resident? If not, which state?

Congratulations! What did you do to improve your application since your first try? I'm in the process of reapplying. Any advice would be awesome (even though your acceptance with your stats is already encouraging!)

CONGRATS! your story definitely gives me hope =D

do you mind sharing what you did in between both apps, like what else you might have done to help boost your app? you mentioned retaking the DATs but was there anything else like rewriting your essay, taking courses, volunteering, etc?

Praise God for everything in your life and good luck in dental school !!!

congrats! looking to pull off one of those low-gpa miracles myself 🙂

I'm sorry I couldn't reply sooner...

On my first application...my GPA wasn't great at all. I probably could not compete with any of other candidates. My science GPA was 3.17 and the overall is like 3.2 something. During my first interview I was told that my English was terrible...and i need to improve that. He told me I would not get in that year because of my English skill, he told me to go back and do something about it. Well I was shocked during my first interview..of course cried my eyes out because of it...But oh well..

So I postbac took more science classes only...I manage to pull my low GPA up slowly to 3.28 and overal 3.37 I did not take full time credit..only 1 or 2 classes. The rest of the time I worked, volunteered, and do community service. I worked 2 jobs as dental assistants and front desk for two clinics, I also volunteered around in the hospital, nursing home...I did not take any speech classes or any English courses, cuz I figured out it's just a waste. So I decided to go out meet more people, do more work, volunteer where I can interact more and more with patients and others..that's how I practiced on speaking skill. I also collected more letters from people where I work and volunteer...And of course I retook the DAT and continued to take classes to improve on my GPA as well as working. My second DAT didn't really improve on the TS and AA even though each of individual scores slightly went up. I applied again for the second try...i was surprised OHSU called me again, even though it's the last group interview...and as many of you know i got in waited list...and then now i'm in...it's all miracle...it is all God's work. I realized that no matter how hard I worked and studied...if God does not work his hands on me...no such thing would happen to me..and also don't give up your hope...someday miracle will happen to you too...trust in God..let him do his part for you.

wow, your story really motivates me a lot...if you dont mind I ask, you only got 2 interviews out of the 20 schools? I am asking u this because I am applying 18 schools this year, and it is my first try...I am so nervous because my GPA is kind of on the average, 3.3 🙁, even tho just like you, I had a lot work experiences + good letters from the dentist and professors, I still worry if I wont be accepted by any schools with the lower GPA...I havent take DAT yet, and I believe DAT is probably the only way can get me into a dental school if i am lucky enough....congrats and the best luck in dental school 🙂

P.S. english is my second language too, and I do not know if the same thing will happen to me this year...hopefully not.. :scared:

Yes friend
I only got two interviews out of 20 schools for my first try and also 2 out of 15 for the second times...and same two schools interviewed me twice (USC and OHSU). Well i think your GPA is better than me 😀. Work hard on the DAT. I'm sure you will have chance. Don't worry too much...I was worried and stressed out too much for nothing 😀. You can raise your GPA even more by also postbac or taking more classes that will help too. I don't think you will get the same situation like me during the interview. I'm sure you are much better than me.

UOP does impress with people who had lots lots of experience, they don't really mind much about GPA with your GPA 3.3..i think you can get an interview at UOP. Because my DAT was only 18...UOP kept telling me to try to pull up my DAT to 21.

USC i'm sure you can get an interview..

OHSU their avg GPA for 2008 was about 3.5...but with 3.3 they will look at your application. You might get a chance..don't worry..cuz i know a lots of people with 3.1 and 3.2 even myself do get in too.

👍👍👍👍👍👍 Congrats! That is a great and encouraging story (something most of us need now as we submit application and waiting period begins)! 🙂 Congrants once again!

You should also be grateful to the person who dropped out to make space for you.

dude whats with the bitter statement? No need to say that👎thumbdown👎

Acknowledging the true source that made everything possible is a "bitter statement"?

Congrats! What's your home state?

The comment was simply inappropriate in lieu of someone's good fortune. It wasn't bitter, but definitely not necessary, since the thread was congratulatory for the OP's hard work and perseverance. It's called politeness. Google it.

(By the way jenv, congrats.)

It doesn't matter why the OP got in, the point is that they're in. If people want to share their pessimistic views, thats fine, it's an open forum. Good job OP, celebrate!

congrats on your acceptance!!

I mentioned about the interview where you were told you English wasn't too great. Are you an international student with F1 visa?

Inappropriateness is in the eyes of the beholder. Try googling First Amendment.

This isn’t a matter of the first amendment, dickhead. No need to re-direct the attention to freedom of speech because it’s clearly just a cop-out for your lack of class.

This is a matter of having social skills and apparently, you missed out on some very important learning lessons during your upbringing. Maybe you didn’t go out enough (if at all). Or maybe humility, politeness, etc. are simply not taught in your family or culture – hence your eye of the beholder bull****. Regardless, your retort is a joke and the reason you can’t figure out why your comment was inappropriate is because you lack class, doctor.

And this post exemplifies the "class" you are referring to.

Who is to say what is "appropriate" and what isn't? As a matter of fact, why don't you try and tell me just what "appropriate" means in this case. Truth of the matter is, someone did give up their seat, and if I were OP, I would really want to find and thank the idiot. Its not pessimistic, its the real deal holyfield.

Amazing!!!!!!!! Bendiciones!!!!!!!!!!
