Do people treat you differently when they learn you got into med school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
As a whole, Americans feel threatened by intelligent women

I agree, but would adjust the statement to be: "Americans are generally threatened by intelligent people, but especially intelligent women."

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's been my observation from the lower rungs of the social ladder.

For those that disagree, consider that it may be less prevalent in environments with better education. There are a lot more hard hats in fly over states.

I agree, but mine used fewer words. And kudos to the mods for Ban-Smacking that troll respawn. My trolldar has been pretty good lately.

Entirely anecdotal of course, but I live in probably the most hated, backward state in the US and can't say I've witnessed anyone acting threatened by intelligence or intelligent women.

I live in a town that has a dollar general and one gas station too, so pretty rural.

Get tinder and have one of your pictures be of you in your white coat. Girls will be coming and yes panties will drop.
I don't think these are the kinda girls that you'd want to marry...

Those are messages not posts. I know I have certainly made more than the number of posts it says 😆

They’re not a troll (I have helped them through PMS for application help and they have commented on other threads much more than thrice).

Appears to just be differing view points. Confrontational towards those differing viewpoints, but just differing nonetheless.

You should be a mod. I think you would do a great job as one! Thanks!

Nah, I have too many biases, opinions, and not-quite-right beliefs to properly engage in moderating anything. Unless mods are allowed to pick sides, contribute to arguments and discussions with memes, and wield the Banhammer without discretion....then maybe.

If you are looking more closely, you might see what you are saying there 😉

Joking asides, I have seen you being very straight up, fair and honest! Appreciate you!

also @MemeLord : so member 916880 is gone?

I think they may have left of their own volition. Understandable, SDN can be quite hostile towards dissenting opinions (don't visit the lounge...)

When the mods get involved there is usually a strike-through on their name and they are flagged as "revoked."

That's fine. Not interested in marrying most of these girls anyway. And its no secret women care more about status and salary than men. Even with educated women, you'd want to actually marry going to medical school will be a plus in the dating scene.

late to this thread, but i have a related question: how do you respond graciously to people being adulatory about your medical school admission?

i'm not used to being on the receiving end of praise and congratulations. i feel awkward enough when someone compliments my outfit, and much more so when someone acts super impressed by my career choice! is there something that's polite to say besides "thank you"? or a casual way of changing the subject / shifting praise onto the other person?

I can help with this one! In the same way a veteran handles ‘thank you for your service.’ An awkward smile and nod or “Thank you for your acknowledgement/appreciation.”

Ehhhh, but you DO something for the world through military service. Saying “thank you for your appreciation” or something analogous seems appropriate.

On the other hand, I haven’t really done anything for the world by getting accepted to med school. that compliment is a compilent on how smart and talented and special someone perceives you, which feels a little yucky (especially when they don’t know you at all)... relative to when someone acknowledges a real and meaningful sacrifice that you and others have made for our country
