So I was just curious...does anyone know if programs communicate during match season? For example, do program directors talk about candidates? If a particular PD wrote a SLOR, might other PD's contact that person for more info? Any negotiating going on? Just curious.

Thanx!

Definitely, My program told me that they took me on the condition that they could take this superstar EM stud, I think she goes be the name of Irrka on here. So pretty much they will barter/trade players, kind of like the nfl. But my program knows I'm pretty much a sleeper in the draft!

ok too much fantasy football on my mind haha.

I got traded for 1st and 3rd round draft picks last year.... Next year I'll be a free agent. Any takers???

Use the search function. As I said last year, we meet in Vegas in late January, take in a show and sit around and laugh at your personal statements. We also hold a competition for the applicant who tells the most programs "your my first choice!". 😉

Really, we might talk a little, I might call a reference, but mostly not.

I still can't believe you called my first grade teacher and then refused to rank me because she said I was a pimp daddy even in first grade. Geesh, always going to hold it against a kid for having too many girls?

I thought the NRMP was like the fantasy draft. I mean, you all have your rank lists, and you just kind of go through them until they are all taken. Right? But you can only have 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 1 WR/RB, 2 WR, a TE. I don't know the analogy for defense.

But then you can trade for cash if you need to.

However, I was under the impression (truthfully) that if you screw up royally at an away rotation, or during an interview, that specific information may be told to other programs. Any talking is illegal under the match rules though, isn't it?

When they got me it was like when the saints traded all their picks for Ricky Williams (me minus the drug problem and need to find myself in india and thailand and Australia).

They gave it all up to get me! 😀

Occasionally my PD would call someone if they were interested, or intrigued, by the LOR. Usually it was one of his old colleagues or friends, he woudl call to get the "real scoop."

I'm pretty sure that the only talking that is "illegal" is that which concerns ranking position. I would think that anything else is fair game... except one would hope that the actual circumstances surrounding one interview isn't passed along to another interviewer. But certainly "screwing up royally" an away rotation has a certain liklihood of following you depending on severity, circumstances, and proximity to your interview.

For what it's worth, a very reliable source told me that if you are a jerk at one interview in a major metropolitan area, given the tight connections between PDs in that area it will almost certainly get around to the others.

I can tell you one thing - there is someone that occasionally posts here on SDN that was HIGHLY desired by MANY programs this past season - this guy (I'll tell you that) was seen as the "golden boy".

It was not EctopicFetus or CorpsmanUP, by the way. I will not tell you who it was.

Actually, I think it was because you turned down her offer.

Coincidence.

Even so, there IS more than one PD who has in the past or actively now looks at this board (BKN, Marc Squillante in Peoria overtly, others covertly).

I know, I was joking.

I didn't want to put my post count on SDN into my ERAS anyway.

Its me right appy, you can tell me its okay. It is because I am so humble right?

(all those who believe that pm me I have a bridge to sell)

Did someone delete a post? How did we get to here? Sorry Apol, I must have missed something (not unusual). How did discussing the 'golden boy' come about? I know who you're talking about, by the way.

No, no deleted post - just my take on "do programs talk". After socuteMD's comment on being jerky, I responded with a positive anecdote.

PM me the name - I'll tell you if we're thinking of the same person.

Even if PDs look around on here, how can they tell who you are? I'm not too hard to figure out, but there are a lot of screen names that don't give any clue as to the poster's identity.

As to the original topic, in any specialty we're talking about a pretty small group of people (referring to the PDs that is - maybe a couple hundred?), so to think that they don't talk/email regarding candidates would be pretty suprising to me. I actually think it's a good thing overall - it keeps the candidates honest and on their toes. By this I mean look at your med school class and/or certain residents. You see a jerk every now and then, right? Well, at least these people could fake it for their interviews and seem like a decent human being. One administrator I've talked to said that interviews largely serve to screen out the total jerks who can't even fake civil behavior for 8 hours. Unfortunately some jerks can fake it and when that happens programs and other residents suffer.

I'm not trying to figure anybody out. But even if your screen name is unrevealing, if you post your school and year, say something about yourself in your posts, etc. I may be unable to avoid identifying you.

AND if you are in the habit of being argumentative in your posts I may come to that same jerk conclusion you talk about. So might other members of residency admissions committees.

So peeps, protect your identity if you think it important.
