Do school knows how many you applied to?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Some schools ask on your secondary as Nova did. Other than that I'm not sure.

i dont think so...i ahve been asked that at interviews...but i called AADSAS a few months ago and asked the same question. they told me that the school doesnt know how many others you applied to, that releasing that info would basically be a kick in the a$$. so no, i dont think so

Why would they want or keep trying to know that if AADSAS already deem them private info and do not let them have those info the app?

who knows....who knows anything about this whole process really haha. everythign is so goofy w/ these adcoms i'm not surprised by anything.

Wouldn't your AADSAS application show which schools you applied to?

When I went to a school for interview (not gonna specify here), I was asked a very odd question.

the interviewer asked me.. " did you not appply any other school than this XX school?

and I said.. obviously,, " Yes I did"

Then the interviewer asks me..
" then why did u not put anything on this section in AADSAS application? "

and she/he was referreing to this question: " Have you previously applied to dental schools or any other health related profession schools?"
somothing like that.. if i remember correctly.

BUT that question is not asking what other dental schools I have applied for this cycle!!! for God's sake... I kept insisting (well just once) that the question was not meant to be in that way.. But she/he didnt seem to understand what I was saying.. hum

I was surprised how a interviewer could not understand a question in the AADSAS application.

Hmm...maybe it was a stress interview tactic...

UNLV is very specific on their secondary about where you have applied. It seems to me as though they want to offer a spot to someone who wants to go there more than any other school.

I was repeatedly asked where I have interviewed and how I liked the other schools. It was awkward.

i dont think the schools know much about aadsas. i tried to withdraw my application at one school and the lady was insistent that i could cancel my application to that through aadsas.

so you think that if you only applied to 1 or 2 schools, that would look better for you? i would think that maybe it would look like you are more serious about wanting to get in somewhere if you applied to multiple schools (to increase your odds)

It is tough, I applied to about 20.

Either way, I can say that I was advised to apply to many because it was pre DAT and I wasn't sure how i'd fare.

OR

you could say that you are dead serious and passionate about dentistry and wanted to be assured of getting in with the high number of applicants expected.

At UNLV I told them I had a top 4-5 schools and that I was withdrawing from the rest. It would look better than saying I am interested in all 20. they want to know you are passionate about UNLV because they are pretty "cocky", and I use that term lightly. They recruited profs from all over the country five years ago, they have new facilities and an innovative cirriculum, they think they can get whoever they want, so you need to convince them that you would die to go there. Just my opinion.

They may ask during the interview, but it really is none of their dam business. You are the only one paying the application fees. If you are asked this in an interview, ask them what is their student attrition rate, and what are they doing to improve it? Then, ask them what the board pass rate is? If they can't answer either of those questions with certainty, do not attend b/c they either don't know or don't want to tell you; neither of which make for a good educational home.

Yeah I would probably never do anything close to what you said. Good luck with your interviews max.

FYI-
I applied back when AADSAS (2005 app cylce) sent you a copy of the application that the rest of the schools got - ALL the schools you apply to are in the top right hand corner.

So, if I were you - I would list every single school that you applied to (even if it's 20).
Then again, things may have changed since then - but why take the chance of looking like a liar?

I just called AADSAS, and they said all schools can see other sections except that section of what schools you applied to. They said the status section of what, when, and how many schools you applied to are CONFIDENTIAL and INTENTIONALLY not shown to the designated schools. I guess that's why they try to ask us since they do not know. It sounds to me like a case of invasion or breach of privacy and walking a fine line when they try to extract this info from the student - possibly even a lawsuit?

Already in dental school, and I asked those questions, and it does make a difference. Seriously, on any interview you SHOULD be asked if you have any questions for interviewer once they have asked you their questions. Why not? You are an adult and are about to drop hundreds of thousands of dollars, and you can't ask them them anything?

That is the difference between an interview and inquisition.

Most interviewers or deans of admissions will tell you this upfront. More than a few deans have personally told me their board scores proudly. Be advised if they are reluctant to tell you. I didn't pay attention to this at the time, and boy do I regret it now.
