DO school ranking?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No. Ranking 19 schools is kind of silly.

My personal recommendation is NYCOM. My opinion isn't biased since I don't attend the school, and I've compared them to other DO schools such as MSUCOM, PCOM, CCOM, TCOM, and NSUCOM and still come up with NYCOM as being on top. That's my OPINION though, and the "objective" criteria used were things I find to be of utmost importance in selecting a med school.

Number 1 DO school has to be KCOM how could it not be? (Besides being in Nowhere, MO)

MSUCOM and OSUCOM are the only schools which are part of "major" universities. That must count for something. KCOM started it all, but UHSCOM is pretty darn impressive (as far as the battle of the MO schools go).

Opinions will vary, I don't think you'll find a ranking anywhere else except US News and World Report. Of course, that's been mentioned before and some people got ticked that their school wasn't as high on the list as they "thought" it should be. Then followed the excuse that the Report was flawed for this reason and that, etc...

Bottom line is that people are proud of their schools and no list will change their opinion. Look at the positives and negatives of each school for yourself, and decide what factors are most important to you.

That's true, although I've never been a fan of US News & World Report, despite their having changed their methodology.

In any event, I agree with you that MSUCOM is part of a major research university, but since when is OSU (and this is OKLAHOMA State University, not OHIO State University) a major research institution? No offense to the guys out at Oklahoma! A major research university is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as such, and I think only MSU qualifies as far as osteopathic institutions are concerned.

Now, now....OSU is a great comprehensive university, and in addition to their excellent osteopathic medical school, they offer the dual degree D.O./Ph.D. where your Ph.D. is in biomedical science. The medical school is also the first university in the nation to offer a Ph.D. in Forensic Science starting Fall of 2000. I might add they have one of the top veterinarian medical school (which my sister attends), and a main campus that offers outstanding graduate courses in every field. Oklahoma State University is great whether its their med school, vet school, or grad. school, so that's my $.02. Obviously I will be attending OSU-COM in fall of 2000

Just my $.02 worth.....

I'm glad you're not biased Tim OF NEW YORK CITY. Ha ha ha, just kidding, don't get mad. There was a student I met who worked his undergrad years at the AOA in Chicago and many of the docs there told him CCOM was hands down the best choice. Now judging by the array of answers it's obvious everyone's loyal and satisfied about their school. Bottom line, get to know each school, they all offer something different, and you just about can't go wrong. Besides I'm not biased either!

Sorry Turtleboard I was actually refering to Ohio not Oklahoma (Typo). Furthermore, I would like to remove Ohio from my original comments. I was mistaking Ohio University COM for Ohio State University (a Big Ten Univ). By the way I'm not biased either (lol).
