If so, do they know specifically what schools I applied too?

They don't know how many schools or where you applied to this cycle unless they ask you during the interview. However, if you are a reapplicant, they can see where you applied to in previous cycles.

They do know how many, but I don't think they know which. I was directly asked about the exact number I applied to at more than one interview. I wouldn't be concerned about it as long as you have a legitimate answer though, VCU was one of the schools that asked me and I was accepted here Dec. 1.

I think you just have to find a good middle ground in determining number of schools. Most people apply to 10 to 12 schools, I was told acceptable range is usually 5 to 15. If you apply to too many, it can come across as you don't know what you want in a dental school (e.g., are you able to articulate well why you to applied to a particular school). If you apply to too few, it can come across as you don't care (e.g., you would be a dentist if you get into a particular school, but otherwise forget it), unless you have a compelling reason (e.g., you have family members who you need to remain close to).

What if I paid my primary fees but didn't pay the secondaries. Are they considered as applied too?

Seriously why bother asking students how many we applied if they know it already?

To see which fools lie. People don't like liars

It's not like a "how many schools did you apply to?" question, it's an "I see you applied to a lot of schools, why should we expect you to commit to us if we accept you?" kind of question.

Can they see if you have declined any previous offers? Say if you're a reapplicant because you got only one offer from a school you decided you could no longer attend, if you choose to reapply the following cycle, will schools see this?
This is not my situation, just hypothetical. I am regretting applying to one of the schools I applied to.

They do not know how many schools you applied to. The only time they can see anything related to other schools is in March. On a specific date in March (exact date escapes me), they will be able to see if you have deposits down at multiple schools.

March 1st is when all schools report to AADSAS, March 5th is when these names are released to the schools to see who is holding multiple spots. Seen here, in item f.

I believe you do have to list the schools you applied to the previous cycle, and their results (ie, any acceptances). Declining an acceptance one cycle in hopes of getting admitted elsewhere the next cycle is a very risky game to play because it may demonstrate a lack of commitment to the profession (like hey you want to be a dentist like thousands of other applicants, and you were given a shot when thousands of others weren't, so why didn't you take it?).

If you regret that school, you can withdraw your application from consideration...so that someone else who's really interested in that school may get a shot instead.

You might need to. You definitely have to reveal the outcome for previous applications to other health professions schools, so I would likely assume the same for previous applications to dental school. At some point in the application cycle, schools are required to update your AADSAS status to allow other schools to see your acceptance status at other schools. I would assume that AADSAS retains this history. Can't lie about it, no matter how much you think it will hurt your application. I had to reveal that I had previously applied to med school unsuccessfully, and I think that has clearly backfired seeing how schools have been generally unwilling to give me interviews. But if you are caught lying on your application, you can face greater consequences for it.

It usually reflects poorly if you get an acceptance somewhere but then turn it down only to reapply the next cycle (but there are exceptions). If you have a legitimate reason, such as some family issues came up and you needed to remain close to them, then it makes sense to turn down your only acceptance if attending that school would have required you to relocate quite some distance. However, if your reason is along the lines of you wanting another shot at your first choice school, or you thinking that you are too good to be going to the school that accepted you, then that obviously won't cut it. You might think that the only bridge you could have possibly burned was with the school that accepted you, but schools may talk to each other, and admissions committee members can move from one school to another. Don't underestimate how quickly your reputation can spread.

The two schools I was accepted to were the only schools out of the 25 schools I applied to that asked how many schools I applied to on their supplemental apps, go figure lol And yeah I did list all 25. Some places will ask you during the interview though, but just be truthful because you never know what they have access to, but really make it a point that you'd attend that school if accepted. This way it's a win-win answer

Do you recommend listing them out? I have 24 in my list, and I have been saying that I applied to 24 and giving my reasons for doing so. I felt like listing them out would take a lot of time.

you can just write the name in an abbreviated form, like NYU or Roseman etc. I think I did that, because I tried writing out the full name at first and ran out of characters. They probably just use that question for statistical purposes, I wouldn't sweat it.

Edit: I think you meant listing them at all. Tbh it probably wouldn't hurt if you didn't list all of them, but I was paranoid so I just did lol looking at your interviews though I'd say just sit tight and enjoy the ride to dec 3 🙂
