Do Schools know how many schools each applicant applied to? Is it an accessible information for ADCOMS through AADSAS? Someone told me that they do and some said they don't.

I would think it would look bad if you tell them you really want to go to that school but they know you have applied to 20 other schools. Has anyone been asked this type of question at the interview? What would your reply be?😱

Most schools have already received around 2000-3000 applicants so far in this cycle, with probably another 3,000 to go. Your lucky if they even read your personal statement.....

😕 Um... okay... 5000-6000 applicants for most schools? Where is that coming from?

To the OP, when I interviewed at NYU my interviewer asked me directly how many schools I applied to and which ones they were. It was also in the secondary they have you fill out before the interview.

My interviewer never asked me what my top choice was though... When I told him about the other schools I applied at, he said, "you'll probably get a few more bites". I don't know if that meant I was a strong applicant or if it just made it easier for him in his own mind to drop me🙁. I guess I'll find out in December... So far he's been wrong though... no other "bites" yet.

I think you misunderstood my question. I wanted to know if each school that I applied to know how many schools that I sent my applications to. For example, if I applied to fifteen schools, does each school know that I applied to fifteen through AADSAS.

BTW, each school looks at every application including personal statement regardless when it's submitted as long as it's before the deadline. My state school only received 1300 applications total last year. 😀

either a joke or gross exaggeration. There are ~3 schools with just over 4,000 applicants (estimated) and a couple more above 3,000.

NSU recieved well over 5000 applicants last year (the final number was close to 6300), and this year they have already had close to 2500. Don't believe published stats the schools put out 😀

NSU published that they only did around 340 interviews also. In reality, they did closer to 600. Don't believe what you read from these schools....I am well affiliated with NSU dental. And no, this was not a joke.

I've had similar questions and was honest with them. They know no serious applicant would be stupid enough to only apply to his/her top choice at the risk of not getting in, so they realize you'll apply to other schools. It's nothing to be ashamed about.

They can see what other schools you applied to. I asked one of the girls who works at the admissions office at NYU. And i also got asked what other schools i applied to by both UF and NYU. There were only 4 spaces on the sheet so i only put 4 schools. It's kinda not fair tho because i applied to 13 schools on aadsas and i only completed/paid fees for 9 schools.

They're not going to look down on you for applying to more schools. They understand that it's competitive to get into dental school, and you want to guarantee admitance, and hopefully have options. I applied to a lot of schools last year and I got asked this question at a few interviews. I was honest about it; they all took me anyways. =) Nothing to worry about.

In short, YES schools can have access to this information. They can find out how many schools you have applied to if they really want to. Is this admission criteria? No. Is this information that they will actively seek out when they are dealing with hundreds and thousands of applicants? NO. They do not care, and they don't have the time.

Hence my original post. These schools have an extremely large pool of applicants, and you would be lucky to have them even read your personal statement.

your assuming all those applicants have buisness applying to dental schools.

I would think at least 30% of those have no business doing so and another 30% get rejected right away from not having minimums. Then they only have to read 40% of those applicants. These are just estimates but you see what I am getting at.

this is why people tell you to keep your personal statement short and why you get a character limit.

the ad coms i am sure skim through ALL of the personal statements and only read ones that catch their attention

I know OU has over 500+ out of state applications for 10 out of state spots. Needless to say I haven't heard from them.

You sound like you own the dental schools or something. Couple of supplementary applications I filled out specifically asked to list all the schools I have applied to. Why ask if they don't care?

No, I don't own the dental schools. I just happen to have insight on how admissions works, at least at NSU - (due to my affiliation with the school)

On supplimentals and even on AADSAS they ask a lot of questions that they may or may not use to admit you. Most of which they barely even go over initially because of the sheer volume of student applications. If you happen to get an interview, they do a brief look at everything - but the point I am trying to make is that applying to 20 other schools is not a deal breaker for them. Trust me, they know that dental school is harder than ever to get into these days. They will not hold that against you, and will not use this in thier decision regarding acceptance/rejection. If any dental school expects you to apply to just thier school, they are clearly idiots. If they ask you a question about this during an interview, there is no reason you cannot explain to them why their school is appealing to you over others. Hell, you can even go on about how you feel thier program is your top choice due to thier great X, Y, Z. My reply to an interview question like this would be honesty. If you applied to 20 schools, tell them - and give them your reasons. Do not be afraid to speak your mind with these people.

Now, applying for a 2nd or 3rd time -- that is something they may use in thier decision.

I am trying to tell you to not worry about things like this in your application.

i was asked straight up at an interview how many schools I applied to and had no problem telling them that it was 14. My interviewer went on to say I should start picking and choosing which ones I wanted to attend and to decline the others. Then we talked about the schools he applied to way back when.
