I'll be a reapplicant for MD and first time applicant for DO this cycle. It has been harder to find GPA/MCAT data for DO programs, does anyone have any recommendations for DO programs based on my stats? I intend to apply to between 5-10 DO programs and 20ish MD if I can trudge through the secondaries.

GPA 3.74, sGPA 3.68
MCAT: 513

VA resident, on the waitlist for 2 MD programs but it ain't looking promising this time around

Lots of ECs and healthcare experience, currently working as an ophthalmic technician. Very limited research. I am a nontraditional applicant with an infant child and married so looking for programs that are more open to non-trads. I have a letter from an MD but not a DO

Hey @chemdoctor , this is why I advise having DO schools on the list when one has even median MD stats.

OP, you're fine for any DO school, including mine. You'll need to skip those schools that require the DO LOR. I have a high opinion of, in no order:
Both Westerns
VCOM
PCOM
MUCOM
CUSOM
LECOM
NYITCOM
Touro-CA
AZCOM
CCOM
KCOM
DMU
UNECOM (if you're from the NE)
PacNW (if you're from the NW)
KCU
I can't recommend Touro-NY, Nova, Wm Carey, LUCOM, for different reasons. MSUCOM? Read up on Larry Nasser and you decide. LMU has an accreditation warning, which concerns me.

For the MD side, rewrite all essays and have multiple eyeballs vet them.
Apply on time
Assess your app's weakness and fix them, even if it means skipping an app cycle.
See if you can get feedback from the schools that rejected you.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I'm meeting with the dean of admissions at the local MD program I was waitlisted at later this month for application feedback. At the top of the waitlist so I suppose we will see. Had my physician mentor take a look at my app and no red flags, but shot too high and didn't apply broadly enough (having a newborn during the secondaries didn't help, that's for sure). I've added more experience and an additional LOR to my repertoire and feel prepared for a new cycle.

Hey @Goro

This is just one instance. It's different to add DO schools later on in the cycle.

You suggested that an applicant with a GPA of 3.8+ and a 512 MCAT apply to DO schools...

I've been around SDN long enough to know that even median candidates don't get into MD so easily.

I’m aware. Just don’t think someone with a 3.8+ and a 512 is considered a median candidate

Median = 3.7 and 511. OP is right on top of that.

I was referring to the other post where the applicant had a 3.8+ GPA with a 512 MCAT

Sorry, I meant that SDner. I normally don't advise DO for an MCAT of 513 or higher, but for this OP, they are a reapplicant.

Be that as it may, I'm done arguing with you.

Didn’t mean for it to come off as an argument. Even the wise “gonnif” said that SDNer didn’t need to apply DO the first time dude... seems like you just got irritated
