Do schools send you e-mail / regular mail for acceptance or rejections?

oops, i forgot to include interview invites and waitlistings, which were what I really wanted to ask

It would be nice if interview invitites, waitlistings, and rejections or acceptances were announced in a uniform manner, but, alas, the method varies with each school, obliging one (if applying to more than one school) to check the status page and mailbox daily, as well as keep a phone close at hand.

It seems that many schools prefer the snail mail form of final decisions, but there is no real rhyme or reason to the ones that do not.
