I have a couple of questions and would really appreciate it if someone could given me an answer, if I've taken the MCAT more than once, can I just release the highest score to AACOM, do osteopathic schools look at all my scores or just the highest one? Also what's up with the limited space for the PS, it's gone be hard to shorten the essay I sent to AMCAS, did any of you face this problem?

Thanks

I think all of your MCAT scores will be released if the scores are in the THX system with AAMC. When I released my scores, all of them were released to AACOM. Maybe someone else knows different.

As far as the PS, yes it is short. I had hard time shortening my essay from AMCAS, but I did manage. You'll have to find a way to shorten them, and there's no other way around it.

Schools set their own policies as to how they deal with multiple MCAT scores. You need to call the admissions offices of the schools you are interested in and ask them what they do.

Thanks, that's what I'll do. BTW, I'm looking to apply to 4-5 DO schools, I'm applying to TCOM for sure, but don't know what other schools I should apply to. I heard that UMDNJ-SOM and OU-COM are both good, but accept mostly in state residents, what are some of the better DO schools that accept a lot of out of state residents.

UMDNJ has been taking about half its class from out-of-state and once you are interviewed state of residence is not a factor in the decision. Further more, you can gain in-state status before first year begins and pay the low-tuition (~20k/year) from the get-go.
Ohio on the other hand only takes about 18% of the class from out-of-state and they require a 5-year contract to practice in Ohio post medical training
They are both excellent schools from what I can tell.

all the schools I applied to took my better scores.

I am going to MSU because I am a state resident, but for you I would recommend KCUMB, NOVA, AZCOM, and maybe DMU.....IMO

I was working at Duke yesterday and one of the DOs working in the ER came by to say hello because he heard I was interviewing soon. Didn't know him from Jack. Anyway, he was super kind and offered to have me over for dinner with him and his wife if I had any questions or needed an LOR. He spoke at length about how his school experience was and how he loves being a DO. He went to Iowa and loved it. He said that he had many students in his class that have had MCATs on the low side and they did extremely well in med school. If you are interested in OMM, you will see it a lot at DMU. You might want to check into Iowa.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

technically, when you send score reports to AACOMAS or any non-AMCAS schools, you can pick and choose whether or not to send scores prior to april 2003. if you took the test before that, you have the choice to conceal those scores. after april 2003, all scores will show-up automatically. but here's the catch, if you have old scores and you choose not to send them, it still shows that you took the test and they know that you concealed the scores. so you might get asked.

That's true; all the DO schools that I contacted told me that they take the highest one, so no worries. BTW, I was planning on applying to PCOM-Atlanta, but I think I'll hold off on that since no one knows anything about this school yet. I heard the school in Nevada is pretty good though, what do you guys think? Also do you think the 2 schools in California are just as good as TCOM?

Both DMU and AZCOM seem to be great schools...I was very impressed by both! Give 'em a thought!
