Do spring term grades matter?

I am planning to submit before my spring grades are out. I imagine it wont do too much to the gpa. do schools actually care about the grades when I send them for academic update...will it factor into anything?? I am also studying to retake the DAT, so should I focus more on the DAT and just scrape by with B/B+s or still try to make the effort to get As? im just scared that my DAT studying will go down since my schedule is pretty packed as of now.

current sgpa 3.23ish
1st DAT AA18/TS19

I'm in the same boat as you.

Seeing that your sGPA is not out-of-this-world, you MUST get A's in addition to performing amazingly on the DAT.

If you ABSOLUTELY must make one or the other suffer, let your classes slide and focus on the DAT; I do not recommend this though.

Not sure what you mean by spring grades. The "spring" semester varies from school to school (it can mean winter classes or the first half of summer). I think you mean the first half of summer.

Submit your AADSAS without your summer grades. You will include these grades on your academic update at the end of December.

yes, the spring grades are the grades that come out in mid-June. My question is that when they see the academic update by december..will they care how well i did in spring? because right now, i want to focus more on studying the DAT.

i dont recall hearing many people getting rejected because their academic update was bad..is it true? is the AU just to make sure you werent messing around or is it factored into admissions (for post-dec1 interviews, etc)?

Because your sGPA is not very high and if your classes are science related, then yes, depending on how you do in your classes may influence how you are viewed by the adcoms.

Personally, I wouldn't take any risks.

If/when you get an interview, your letter will say, "At this time, please send us all updated transcripts." So, no, you WON'T need to include your grades in AADSAS but the school WILL see your grades even before they interview you.

So don't blow off your spring and summer classes.

Don't take any risks... there is no guarantee you'll get in this cycle. If you don't and you do poorly in the spring term it will show. I have a 3.9 and a 19/19/22 and only received one acceptance. Also, some schools will take your academic update seriously. For example, UCSF obligates you not to receive anything less than a B in any course otherwise your application will be placed for re-review. Plan for the worst case, but hope for the best. Don't shoot yourself in the foot.

You'll have to update your application. With scores like that, they definitely DO matter!

well, if they call you for your interview before you can academic update, at least you got your foot in the door?

but really, should try to do your best~
