GvG, I honestly never heard of DO until I went on SDN. Furthermore there is no practical or philosophical difference between an MD or DO. Though through being exposed to many you've developed a high opinion of them and decided to pursue a DO over an MD. That's fair, but a tad but ill-researched 😉.

What's going on over here?

But seriously, I'm astounded that pre-med students don't have a grasp of Osteopathic medicine, its philosophy and inclusion of touch as a diagnostic and treatment instrument. I'm proud to become an osteopathic physician in the future, I applied only to D.O. schools; I've always wanted to be a D.O. I'm influenced by a quite a few circumstances that lead me to the DO path (parents both DOs, being born at an Osteopathic hospital, and living in Mid-Michigan), but pre-med students should do themselves a favor and research the options available to them.

...never hearing of DOs before. I guffaw at that.

Believe it. I'd heard of the Caribbean schools too, but not DO.

I'm sorry, but if you really buy into the DO philosophy that's even sadder. Your future classmates will not, they will mainly just be there as a second choice after MD programs.

Why not just call the DO what it is, a MD/Chiropractor combined program?

DO vs MD threads are not tolerated on SDN when they become denigrating the field. It is fine to discuss differences, but mistruths are not tolerated. As such, this thread has been closed.

In the future, read the DO stickies before posting threads that have been discussed amply in the past.
