Do you get hosed for adding more schools to aacomas at later date?

Hey guys,

I didn't apply to very many schools, so I don't know how much aacom charges you for each additional school beyond your 3rd designation.

I'm independently paying for all costs affiliated with the application procedure (from app fees to travel costs) on top of my tuition and expenses, so I didn't designate very many schools when I submitted the aacomas the 1st time around.

However, on second thought, I should have and am thinking of adding a couple more schools.

I noticed that when I added more schools to my designation list just now, they are charging me a LOT more than if I had designated them all at once in the first place.

I thought it would only cost you $30 for extra designations beyond your 3rd school. However, it looks like they have charged me $50, then $40, then $30to add my 4th, 5th, and 6th school. Does the decreasing fee scale START OVER if u don't designate all at once?!? 😡

Can somebody let me know what is going on? How are the fees dictated?

I added two schools after verifying, and I was charged $90 for the two. I don't remember what this broke down to per school ($50 then $40 possibly). However, I do remember that it would have been cheaper if I had included them initially.

By the time I got the secondaries, I had heard from other schools I was more interested in, so it turns out I didn't apply (send back secondaries) to those two anyway... I don't know if this wait-and-see is good advice now that it's later in the cycle though. I guess if you can afford, it add them. It's better to hedge your bets now than to have to repeat the cycle.

do you guys know if there would be any serious delay in receiving secondaries if I chose to add extra schools after I get verified. I'm on a waitlist for a school right now from 2008 cycle, but I am applying for this cycle just in case I dont get in. I don't want to shell out all the money initially, and then find out I don't have to apply after all. If I add the schools after verification, will I receive secondaries from those schools immediately?

yea it start over. if you decide to add a school a month from now, it will cost 50, second one will be 40 , etc

if your already verified, its not the worst thing to start adding school late july or august. alot of secondaries are automatic, if you are above the cutoff. You would get them shortly after you apply and designate the school

a817 is correct, the pricing sucks for adding schools. This shouldn't slow down your application. I added more schools last year (before and after I was verified) and my application wasn't delayed.

yup.. I added LECOM B 3 months after I originally submitted and was charged the full amt.. but hey.. it was worth it.. thats where i'll be next year!
