There is an ortho doc in my state that made 13 million last year according to public records. Around 12.5 of that came from royalties from inventing a device that is used quite a bit all around the country. Ben Carson reportedly made 8 figures after he announced he was running for president. Most of that was from writing a book and giving speeches.

So yeah, they exist. But that money doesn't really come from being an MD.

probably a few physician equity partners in anesthesia AMCs. I suspect similar is true for ER, Radiology and Pathology management groups.
