Do you wear hospital scrubs or did you buy your own?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hospital scrubs. The OR requires that you wear their specific, hospital-laundered clean scrubs. For the floors it doesn't really matter, but it's not usually too hard to get access to a couple of pairs from the hospital so that you don't have to buy any yourself.

hospital scrubs ofcourse.........coz they allow only sterilized stuff

In the beginning I had bought a couple pairs to wear on ward rotations, but after I just started using ones at whichever hospital I was at. Like others have said, especially for surgery, you'll be required to change into their scrubs.

Scrubs aren't really considered "sterile", but yea, it is most likely because who knows how often some people actually wash those. I never understood the point of buying your own if the hospital provided them. You wear them because they are disposable. Save the fashion statement for outside where you don't have to think about bodily fluids and stank.

I wear hospital scrubs for now since they are free but I feel like I'll buy my own after intern year. The scrubs at my hospital now are all XXL and unless you have the assoc roid rage, you look like you're wearing a blue garbage bag.

I don't think we get a choice. You wear professional dress on the floors and clinic and hospital issue scrubs in the OR.

I realize what you are trying to say but sometimes it's not always about looking good. If one is swimming in the scrubs, they will not look professional or presentable. Also, long scrub pants are easy to trip on when running to a code.

hospital scrubs for now..

might buy a few pairs of nice scrubs after residency, just because dammit, i deserve it.

on a related note, this week our scrub machine gave me most comfortable scrubs in the hospital, which I did *not* wear to work and will be keeping for some time.. 😀

Hospital scrubs, except for my elective at an outside institution where I wore my own scrubs (non-OR elective, though).

I'd buy one set just in case, and keep in your bag/car, especially on first days of a rotation when secretaries can "accidentally" not get you scrub machine access.

It's not about fashion. It's about actually having some pockets on the scrubs and not playing "Where between flamboyant European in capris and MC Hammer will the supposedly same size of scrubs fall today?"

Point taken about most likely wearing professional clothes or OR scrubs though...

Bought my own, even for the OR. Sterile is nice but the hospital administration could never figure out how to get us access to the ScrubEx machine. When I was going to the OR I did only use scubs once before washing them.

I wear hospital scrubs, but I don't get them from the machine every day. I hoard pairs that fit and launder at home unless they get bloody/messy. Then, I stick 'em back in the machine for new ones.

Most ORs that I've worked in have a strict "hospital scrubs only" policy.

YES! I'm not the only one!!! 👍

It's hard to find mediums!!!

What are these scrub machines you people speak of? We just have carts full of scrubs in locker rooms where you can pick your size each time. Not that this stops me from hoarding scrubs anyway, I think im at 10 pair now-a-days

Us too - the locker rooms have big piles of scrubs, with all sizes easily available.

This is why. Our hospitals have wised up to the rampant scrub theft perpetrated by students. With machines, you can only have 2-3 sets at a time.

That's unfortunate for you and your fellow classmates they hide proper fitting scrubs from you...

I have no intent on keeping them, but it does makes laundry easier by not having to do it every 3 days or wearing filthy hospital scrubs around.

Hey, I'm as guilty as the next person. I'm just saying that's why there are now scrub machines.

Can't tell if srs. 😕
Everyone runs or at the very least powerwalk like a mofo when the code is called overhead at my hospitals.

I'm serious. Whoever called the code should be doing compressions and everything else can wait the extra ten seconds. Not worth it to injure yourself or someone else in a crowded hallway.

Eh, I see your point. I learned by example though so running is the "right" way for me.

Hospital requires us to use their scrubs. Pay a fee up front in the beg of the year and have a certain amount alloted to us.
