are lawyers on there? i don't see them.

hey the smartest keyboard operator has a higher iq than the dumbest doctor; maybe that person can be a part time keyboard operator and a part time walking malpractice liability

I saw a tv special on the guy with the highest tested IQ in America and he works as a bouncer while rewriting the Theory of Relativity.

Lagan or something. I remember him.

IQ is so pointless.

Did you notice James Woods, the actor, has a higher IQ then Stephen Hawkings and Bill Gates? Does it matter?

I would think relatively few professionals ever take an IQ test as they have nothing to prove.
I just took a free one on the internet... the tests are kindof fun to take anyway. Why not?

I agree, IQ doesn't really test any acheievement and even if it is supposed to be testing potential, who's to say that you can reach it or that it's applicable to what you want to do.

About 2 years ago, I happened across one of those internet IQ tests. I took it and scored 143. I figured this must be some stupid internet test, so I went and took the MENSA test, and I passed! (The administrator said the means my IQ is 135+ or 98th percentile of the general population) Then I took the MCAT, and while I did decently (30), that is certainly far away from the 98th percentile, even if the people who take the MCAT are, say, twice as smart as the general population. My GPA definitely confirms I'm no genius either. Maybe I'm just a lazy one. Anyway, I put it on my app because it can't hurt to have them think you're smart, right? 😉

Just my two cents.

if it tested everyone in the world, then perhaps it could make some correlation but since it tests such a few amount and boasts their scores (some 10 year old had the highest IQ ever according to Guinnes but how does it do this without testing everyone else?), but IQ means nothing.

The physics guys on the other hand...

The MCAT is a different deal. Partly a knowledge test vs. aptitude. It probably means you have some room for improvement if you prepare more for the MCAT (although why with that score?).

Madonna 140 and Sharon Stone 154... That is what really surprised me. I did not know they was that smart!! 😀

You also have to understand there are different "types" of IQs - when I was tested I was scored for a "mechanical" iq and something else (I forgot.. it was a long time ago). Many iq tests are based on pattern recognition or pattern repetition, so while they don't test what you already know, they do test your ability to figure things out.

BTW, doesn't the MENSA test cost like $200 to take? I don't need to pay $200 for someone to tell me I'm smart. 🙂

I think MENSA also accepts high grades on various standardized tests -- SATs, GMATs etc...

James Woods was actually offered a full ride to MIT to study mathematics, pretty interesting considering the path he eventually took.

But we do have to pay $190 for someone to tell us we can be doctors. 🙂 (And the MENSA test was only $30.)

wow I looked up the Nigerian Guy with a 190 IQ and he faced so much discrimination because he was black...

here is the article

http://www.math.buffalo.edu/mad/computer-science/emeagwali.nsbe.interview.html

So what? Why would you post this? Was your point to prove that this guy had an IQ of 190? Or that he was discriminated against because he was black? The interview here was doen by the "national society of black engineers," so the intent of this article is obvious. Quit trying to start another black discrimination thread.

Geez man. It was an interesting article and reasonably on topic. There was no need to flame visualwealth. Thanks visual... I found it interesting.

doctors range starts at 109? thats within the average range. interesting. i guess we're not as smart as people think we are 😀

IQ is ******ed because most people can't maintain that kind of focus throughout the day and if they do they would be weirdos.

$30? I got a flyer from MENSA about 6 months ago saying I could take the test in Denver... just pay my money for the test when I make the reservation. And I remember the test fee was something outrageous - about half of the yearly MENSA dues. $30? Either those of us in Colorado are gettin' screwed or you got a heck of a deal. (and yes, the flyer was actually from MENSA, not from a front agency, so the test fee was not for a middle-man.) BTW - I didn't take the test. Couldn't afford to.

mensa is a bunch of turds. check out the prometheus society. that's the real deal. get into that society and, while iq tests are not the ultimate indicator of a person's worth or intelligence, you are pretty damned smart if you pull it off.

whoever said it takes a lot of intelligence to memorize procedures and how to diagnose? i would think that doctors and auto mechanics have about the same iq range, but that docs come from families with higher average incomes. (not "all docs are kids of rich people," so don't start flaming on about that, cause i didn't say that.) your jobs are basically the same, you charge about the same, and you are successful in fixing the problem about as often. 😉

Well, I guess you're getting a bad deal then, or else they've raised their fees a lot since two years ago. Also, I joined MENSA and it was $55 or was it $80?...hmm, well, either way I'm sure it was less than a hundred for a year's membership. Don't think I will renew it thought because the meetings were too far away and the newsletter sucked.
