does 3rd year rotation site matter?

i'm an M2 planning on going for radiology and have some options in so far as where my core hospital will be for 3rd year.. one of the hospitals has a radiology residency, the other doesn't but is more personally appealing. my question is how helpful would/wouldn't it be to go to the hospital which has that residency program, recognizing the fact that radiology is not part of 3rd year rotations? any "networking" would have to be done through IM/surgery or fighting my way into the department after my regular work hours are done. is it worth it, or would i be better going to the other hospital site and coming back to impress the actual department during 4th year elective? 😕

Go wherever you can get the best grades.

Honestly, I hardly notice medical students even when they're doing elective rotations and presumably want to come to my program. I can't imagine that any "networking" you do during 3rd year will really amount to much, unless you do research with the radiology department. Perhaps program directors feel differently. <<shrugs>>

Go to the place with the residency program. Try to shine, get a letter of recommendation from the respective program director. The PDs know each other and give more weight on a LOR from another PD.

Don't go the to the place with the radiology residency just because of the radiology residency. You will not be able to do anything but annoy the radiology program your 3rd year. Go to the place that gives the best grades or that is closest to home. You can go back your fourth year and shine then once you know enough medicine.
