Does AMCAS round individual grades up or down?

I'm confused by the verification guide. Let's say I got a 3.2 in a class. What would the AMCAS grade be? Would they round down to 3.0 (B) or up to 3.3 (B+)? Or is there something in between?

EDIT: Yes my school does GPAs for every class, individually, and then aggregates them for the final GPA per quarter. Is that not normal?

😕

You're saying your transcript actually says you got a 3.2 in a class? If that's the case, read the back of your official transcript and see what that means. AMCAS is not going to go off of numbers, but rather take whatever your school considers and A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc. and use that to create your AMCAS GPA.

What? You should ask your pre-med advisor or someone who already went through the process from your school. How do you get a 3.2? You didn't get a letter grade.

Woah, no that's not normal...I feel like most schools have a letter grading system with pluses and minuses or gradients (like A/AB/B, etc). I think your best bet would be to contact your prehealth office or registrar and ask them how your individual GPAs would be treated outside of your university.

Yes this is VERY rare. Its usually ABCD (+/-) or 4.0/3.7/3.33/3.0...

I would talk to others at your school who have gone through this and also call AAMC.

One of my schools did it this way. On the back of the official transcript there was a conversion guide. I believe it was A=3.8-4.0,A-=3.5-3.7, etc.

I just put down exactly what it said for each course on my transcript, e.g. I put 3.9 into amcas for a course I got a 3.9 in. During verification they changed it to an A.

My school actually does this. Numerical system on the transcripts. They do have their own conversion system that AMCAS takes into account. For example, 3.9-4.0 is consider an A while 3.5-3.8 is considered A-. However, AMCAS did give me an AB grade, which my school doesn't even give.... I did challenge it so we'll see how that goes.
